On Fiona’s request Henry began to examine the control console for references as to how the base generated power. Ancient outposts typically had a ZPM - a zero point module - at the heart of their power grid which somehow created power by sucking it from a tiny pocket of sub-space contained within the crystal. The first time he read about them Henry wished he picked up more science subjects back in university.

He was noticing a lot of references to ‘ground’ or ‘earth’, and while he first thought that was to do with grounding an electrical circuit, the prominent position of the text in the middle of the console suggested it had a more important meaning. “I think the base may draw power from the planet,” he hypothesised. “Could be some sort of underground thermal energy from the core of the planet?” In theory it sounded possible, but he was far from an expert in the field.

SV-1 departed to continue their investigation of the base, leaving a small security detail to watch over Henry, Fiona and Makes.

From the corner of his eye Henry noticed Fiona removing what looked like copper writing from the control panel. “Interesting,” he noted, looking over from the console he was translating. “It was my understanding that the Ancients used crystal-like structures in their computers. Maybe the locals had a bigger role in building this place than we though.” Copper wiring was also a technology that humans on Earth had a great deal of experience dealing with, which meant there might be a chance they could connect their powers and equipment to it.

“Are you able to interface a computer with that wiring? Probably a lot faster than translating all this control panels.”

Seconds before he was due to join his team, the NASA red head stopped him on the doorway, a snarky comment was just sitting on he tip of his tongue. Oh what wouldn't he do to having someone take over his place to a day or two. Yet, he was biting the remark back down his throat, he turned to face her, "Once Mr Charter is done where his presences is required, you can radio him to join you. It that fair?" For the moment it was the best he could do without overriding the orders given by the higher up. And the overriding orders would not sit well with Matt or anyone else in the chair of the BIG HEAD. Heck whatever the starred officers said -went- more or less.

With that he walked out, sighing he moved down the hall to meet up with the members of his team. Pausing to get his bearings, he heard Fiala's words and chuckled in amusement, "Oh," he shook his head, "Personally it has nothing to do with..." he eyed the dog uneasily, and hoped that the jaw did not end up on his rear end, "Shadow, you said his name was, right? It's just I don't get along with animals at all." He had never stopped to think why that was that case.

"My cousin's dog hates me," he added as he switched on the flashlight again, and moved it around. He still could hear Riddle growling at him -in his ear and mind- and that alone made him cringe. "If you think would be better for the dog to take the lead, by all means he can." After all she had lead a team before she became his XO and knew Kelly and the dog well.

"Hey, Serge," he called out, his voice slightly echoing down both sides of the hall, "he," Robert pointed to Shadow, "takes the lead."

Problem solved, right?

Fee nodded as Henry translated.

think the base may draw power from the planet...Could be some sort of underground thermal energy from the core of the planet? Fee shrugged. SO far, nothing indicated that, but then, so far, it was pretty simple to see that this system, while quite old, was rudimentary. She found a hidden panel, though, and worked at it with her fingers. It seemed stuck, so she got her pocket knife.

Then, the Captain spoke to her.

Once Mr Charter is done where his presences is required, you can radio him to join you. It that fair? She nodded, her head bent over Henry's screen.

'Tis quite fair, Captain, sir. Thank you. I will wait for him to finish his assigned tasks. She turned back to Henry, as the man went on, and she worked at the panel with her knife.

Interesting....It was my understanding that the Ancients used crystal-like structures in their computers. Maybe the locals had a bigger role in building this place than we though. Are you able to interface a computer with that wiring? Probably a lot faster than translating all this control panels. She had worked the panel open, and tapped Henry's shoulder, showing him the internal mechanism. Sure enough, glowing crystals. She looked at him.

I can...or we can just use THESE. I wonder if the locals had a hand in updating some of this...the copper wiring is new, but these...I've never seen technology like this before. EVER. Finally, she found a switch, beneath the crystals, and flipped it carefully. Things hummed to life, and lights flicked on.

Well, that's a right holy show. I suppose we'll need to tell the Captain, aye? She raised her radio.

Captain Oxford, we've got power in the comms area. How's your form?

Seeing that there was something of a nod, Makes watched as the human, Fee, did something weird with the panel before a warning blinked briefly; nice going human. Makes did not say it aloud, but Fee was actually playing with not just the power control matrix itself, but extremely powerful energy systems. 'Madromas, link up with that and lock it down before it backfires in her face.' Makes had all sorts of rad warnings going off on her HUD that were driving her crazy. [/Locking down energy system output; system link shut down. Madromas said within Makes-Eternals system, only Makes heard it it be said. the Rad warnings ended as the power link was shut off.

At that exact moment however, Makes hit the main power controls. Activating power throughout the complex. 'tangi ngandika kula' She thought. She activated her radio. " Matthew Oxford Power is activating through out the coplex. Though you may want to get a look at this" Makes had found a floorplan map of the massive structure.

She turned briefly to Fee however saying simply. "Be happy I cut the power off on that matrix core there." She pointed at it. "You would have been burned or blinded by the energy reserves that has within it even when unpowered." Why these humans futzed around with stuff behind the scenes was beyond her. At least Makes saved her life, the lives of the two marines, and Dr Pratt. Whom Madromas took a liking to.

Roger straightened up from speaking to Aear. As he'd expected, the young man saw right through him. Thankfully, though, Aear agreed to his menial taks.

Wakaru. Shikashi. Aside from the fact that i'll have this work done in mere minutes. Just this first page of your notes... With my eidetic memory is this really a good idea? I wont be able to forget any of them. Not a single word or letter. Is that not a breach of confidentiality? Roger considered for a moment.

I trust that you will not share what you read. At any rate, I haven't got any other help, so it's all you, at least until the Admiral finds something for you to do. Roger sighed, but gave Aear a look that said "I know you know that I am BSing right now, so thanks for playing along." He wasn't yet at frazzled, but might head that way soon. Thank you, Mr. Charter. Good work, you two. Thanks. He sighed. What would he have these guys DO? He raised his radio.

Sirs, medical bay is up for basic triage, just in case. He hung up the radio channel, and then turned to the ladies.

I guess we'll need a surgical suite... He took some items-Dr. Tuck would want her preferred things, but he had his, too. At least it would keep them busy.

Having dug a little deeper into the console, Fiona located a bank of Ancient control crystals, a technology she was not familiar wish. “That’s a step in the right direction,” Henry noted. “From what I’ve read, the SGC has had success in interfacing with crystals such as those in the past. They’ve even grown their own for and incorporated them into their battlecruisers.” Just how the crystals worked or how to interact with them was beyond the archaeologists understanding. They’d need an engineering expert for that.

With some adjustments Fiona was able to activate the power core. Makes-Eternal announced that she had stepped in and headed off an overload, saving them all from being unknowingly blown to pieces. Doctor Pratt bowed his head toward the Fijitian. “Many thanks.”

Now that they had power back online the room switch out of stand-by mode. Numerous holographic monitors around the room came to life, projecting status reports and energy consumption figures into midair. Points of light of various colours, thankfully mostly green, dancing across the walls and control panels all around them. Henry had never seen technology like this before, and frankly, it was breathtakingly beautiful.

“The control room should probably be out next port of call,” Henry announced. From what he’d read about Atlantis, the control room should be back toward the center of the base, adjacent to the Stargate. “That is of course assuming all systems here are in the green?”

Aear gave Roger a small smile. At least someone here trusted him. He might not always get things done the way others liked them done but he'l only tried to help, that and innocently play with everyone. What could he say, he just liked to play. He sometimes wondered whether that was something to do with his lack of a childhood in the labs. If he'd had thought about it at the time he would have had his childhood before his first tour, he was too busy settling in and getting used to being free.

Aear set to work. With the help of Cyleo and his nanites he'd quickly interfaced himself with the computer and brought up a magical terminal next to it. This was really Chiquita's skill set. She'd be able to do it just as fast if not faster and she didn't have the nanites or a strange old man taking place of her arm. The two screens flashed away with the data rapidly being transferred from the paper based notes to Roger's spreadsheet. Actually it was spreadsheets now, Aear was already organising them by patient, date, problems and everything else that popped up. It wasn't like he wasn't good at the small amount of paperwork he couldn't fawn of on others he just found it tedious and boring.

In no more than 5 minutes Aear was finished. He disconnected from the system and closed the magical terminal. He closed his eyes, he'd effectively just read all of Rogers notes and now had to compartmentalise it into the rest of his memories and knowledge. It didn't take long, Aear had the system setup for over and earth decade. Dekita! Called out Aear informing Roger that he'd finished.

Fiala continued on down the corridor at the rear, that was the one thing she hated about this place and that was all the corridors looked the same. In saying that she understood the reason in other bases, the enemy would find it harder to find their way around and she could only gather these builders did the same. As she approached a corner, she noticed one door that stood out. Red writing was on the door, what it meant she had no clue and probably never would be able to read it.

" Oxford," Unless asked Fiala wouldn't say rank, she meant no disrespect just thing like that in her view got leaders killed. " Want to check it out? Could be a nice big wide screen TV, "

Fiala stood her distance from the door, looking it up and down. The door slowly opened as Fiala approached it, her gun pointed into the room and as she got ready to enter it stopped only revealing a gap. As much as Fiala could understand the door lost power or just needed maintenance she wasn't sure. The door would have to be pulled open or they'd have to wait till someone fixed it. Fiala looked to Oxford to see his opinion.

Fee stood next to Henry, and heard Make's voice in her ear.

Fee nodded, blushing a bit, surprised at her own fecklessness. Usually, she was quite careful, but then, this WAS new to her. She should be even MORE cautious, then.

Aye, thanks...do your people use these crystals? She inquired, thinking that maybe the older, taller woman would be a good resource. Really, Fee just wanted to get the comms systems up and running-she needed to write security codes, because whilst she may be surrounded by well-armed, well-trained soldiers, she still felt vulnerable if her machines were hacked.

Henry went next, explaining the basic purpose of the crystals.

Have you got anything I could read about that? I am not sure I can figure out HOW to interface with rocks... She chewed on her lip a little, for once feeling quite useless. She hated feeling impotent and out of control.

A moment later, lights danced in the air, and she couldn't help but smile. That was more like it-numbers, data, pure, straightforward codes, of all sorts-a few she recognized, but most she didn't. The green lights, however, were reassuring, and she got a new look on her face-determination. She had the beginnings of an idea.

Henry went on once more.

The control room should probably be out next port of call...That is of course assuming all systems here are in the green? Fee glanced around some more. Some things were standing out to her, but she was a little too gobsmacked to point them out at the moment. She nodded blankly.

Makes, will you and your...Madromas?...stay here and make sure things are all right? I'll go with Dr. Pratt and begin to get the systems online. Dr. Pratt, lead the way...all SEEMS clear here, to me, anyway. These few codes, here, she pointed to a hologram to the left-Those I recognize. The others I don't know...wether they are Ancient, or some other alien language, I don't know, but they may as well be Greek. Greek was one language Fee didn't speak, read, write, nor understand, though she was interested in learning.

She followed Henry out of the power station, and down hall towards the main gate. She was silent, mostly still overwhelemed, and for the first time, she had a feeling that she was jsut a child at play in an adult's world.

"Hey, Serge, he takes the lead."   Liam looked at Robert when he said that, then gave the command to Shadow.  As Shadow moved out, Liam looked around and listened to the others as they worked, keeping his P90 ready just in case anything happened.  Shadow stood out in front of the group and scanned the area in front of the team like he always did.  While he did that, Liam thought about what Robert had said to him.  Liam  knew that Shadow could sense the uneasiness in him, but that he wouldn't attack unless provoked.

Arriving he took a good before stepping into the actual roon, afer getting a all clear from the SF's who were roaming and securing more of the parameters around the gateroom and the control room. Being engulfed by bright lights as he took not of the structure. His eyes landed on the second floor, then he took a moment to realise that it wasn't a floor, but more or a open walkway that surrounded the room. Another security feature, perhaps. He imagined that during the active years guards would have been placed around the nooks to keep the enemy out.

Turning to see the room in a overall presentation. It more designed like a ballroom used for major functions than a gateroom. A stark contrast from the SGC gateroom they left behind. "They don't things by half do they??" he threw the question at the room itself. That moment he was half expecting the people that SV1 and 2 and encountered to show up out of thin air. Which still made little sense on how that was possible if at all.

Walking further into the room, he heard his own footsteps. Stopping in a the center of the room, it was more larger from here then when one entered from the side door. The lights that streamed through the windows had an effect. Seeing one of their technical personnel join him, Matt found himself being briefed on what was found so far.

His radio came to life and he recognised Make's voice, "Relay the information to Captain Oxford. I'll try coming ASAP." That was once his presences were done here.

Control Room

With power to the base reestablished, Henry and Fiona made their way back toward the central area of the base where the Stargate and beaming room were located. As this was the first part of the base the expedition had entered, a number of teams had already swept the surrounding rooms and located the control room, the central hub of all systems and technology found within the base. If it was anything like Atlantis the room would them to control of virtually the entire complex, including dialling the Stargate, access to long-range communications, the ability to scan the base for life signs, and any databases the locals had left behind. It was a little overwhelming when you thought about it.

Pratt ascended the stairs to the control room, which overlooked the Stargate.
Various consoles and holographic displays were already lit up, having come online when power to the base was restored. “While the styling is definitely Hindu inspired, the layout is Ancient, looks very much like the photos of Atlantis I’ve seen,” Henry explained as he looked around the room. Hopefully this level of familiarity would make it easier for people to work.

Systemically he moved from console to console, not trying to translate every thing piece of text, but rather to get a general idea of what each panel was responsible for. “We have Stargate controls here, and what looks to be city sensors here,” he noted, affixing hand written labels to each control as he passed it. “City-wide and long-ranger communications over here, so I believe this’ll be your seat,” he added, monitoring toward a control control displaying an array of colourful lights and symbols. “And most importantly, an access point for the Ancient database.” It was here that Henry stopped and took a seat. Firing up the console, he starting to flick through files in random, getting a feel for what was in here.

Below them, he spied Admiral Oxford admiring the Stargate with the accompaniment of his security detachment. “Sir, control room is now online,” he called down to the Admiral below, suspecting the man would like to be kept up to date with progress reports and the like.

Unaware that the spell casted wasn't minor as the one that was requested, Gavin moved along with few more men covering his six. He paid little attention to them as they broke from the formation, to cover each room that was in this side of the building. Being adjacent to the gate room had its perks. Walking with the sound of the feet stomping the ground as the light from the spell lit the dark hallway they were occupying and securing.

With few more rooms left, he had one of the members from the group join him, "Looks to be a brig," Private Smith commented, on the other side, as he quickly drew the floor plan for some idea. "Room here," he pointed to the end of the hall and far left area, "no idea where it goes. You want us to check it out."

Barker nodded, "Make it happen, Private." He ordered as he glanced around, "I want every nook of this side explored and detailed." Hearing a short snappy, 'yes, sir' the private moved to complete his order.

After this he was going to speak to Gaines about making a escape plan for emergencies purposes. It was going to be challenge to come up with something.

Looking at young meowtian, "Thanks for the light," he gave short smile, and bend down to her eye level, "you don't have any basic spell for covering the whole base with some......" he searched for the word, "sort of shield, do you?"

Control Room

Fee followed Dr. Pratt, silently. She wasn't really used to the man yet-she was usually off-base, and when she WASN'T, she preferred solitude, with the occassional exception of Koren or Aear's paying attention to her. Even Fiala usually left her alone to work. Fee didn't mind Koren, usually, and Aear most of the time. Still, Fee made it a point-a habit-to keep her mouth closed and under the radar. It worked, too. Apparently, too well.

Finally, Henry led her into a large room near the Gateroom and the beaming area. Made sense to keep those rooms together. She looked around, smiling. This was more like it. A place with computers, and machines, and stuff to play with and buttons! She could do buttons. She placed her bag on a chair, and stood by.

Henry replied to her, finally, breaking the silence and startling her a little.

'Tis perfect, Dr. The styling is certainly Asian, isn't it? What do you mean by "Atlantis?" As in, the mythological lost city beneath the ocean, between New England and REAL England? She asked. That was the only Atlantis she knew of.

He went on, after they both got settled, and Fee got things set up how she liked them. Why she couldn't just bring her same stuff from the makeshift comms room, she didn't understand, but she was told it was to stay put for the Pilot support crew to use. She got to take her PERSONAL items, of course, but it wasn't the same.

Pratt went on, showing her things. 

We have Stargate controls here, and what looks to be city sensors here...City-wide and long-ranger communications over here, so I believe this’ll be your seat. And most importantly, an access point for the Ancient database. Fee sat where he indicated, and started touching panels immediately. She was satisified by the immediate response she got. She heard Henry tell Captian Oxford that all systems were go, and then she turned back to her screen, entering start codes for all the systems. In a few hours, life would be good.

Makes moved through the room across many holographic panels, some of which floated off the walls, in the center of the room, all over, with no decernable surface to anchor to. In some ways it was confusing, yet, to the Fijiytian, it was natural, as their homes were loaded with such technology to begin with. With Madromas working overtime, Makes found an Ancilla port. [/Jack me in Madromas said, Makes placed her hand on the port, Madromas ported over. A whealth of information coursed on the control panel where Makes stood.

"Anything of note that we should be aware of ?" Makes asked while trying to find a wider map of the place. She found a few warning zones with red marks. And then spotted some life signs. One door was marked in hindi and Fijitian saying OPERATIONAL ERROR. Makes worked with that door briefly and it went green.

+ Only items I can find are the date the power core was placed in standby, nearly ten generations ago. Around first gen Ancilla production went en masse + Madromas replied, she brought up some more info + Hmm, it seems the inital creators of this location were not Fijitian in origin, yet they incorporated many Fijitia arcitecture points + Madromas activated a few code strings.

The control room and gateroom itself lit up on the floors and ceiling with light. What looked like thick glass covered pipeelines of sort that lit up with energy as the stargate was then backlit brightly making it look clean. Makes voice came over the comms again, to both Dr Pratt and Matt Oxford. "Power should n ow be activated in full, the main power core matrix needs alignment however, Madromas is working on it, According to the map of the place, which is quite large, You guys are six levels above me, but towards the center of the construct." She reported on the radio. One hell of a walk.

The door in front of Fiala then opened on its own as power was properly restored.
