Escorted by two surly looking marines, Doctor Pratt moved through the southern wing of the base, en route to what he had translated as the power core for the base. From what he’d gathered the thousand year old Ancient built base was currently operating on stand-by power, explaining the emergency lighting, darkened hallways and offline systems. On strict orders Pratt was to try and get the power core back up and running, though how he was to do that remained a mystery.

After silently moving down a series of winding hallways guided only by the flashlights attached to the rifles of the marines, Henry arrived at a seal bulkhead. It was constructed in the typical Ancient fashion, though did have some decorative elements that were unquestionably Hindu. He examined the control pad next to the door, the buttons on which were in both Ancient and a long extinct Hindu text. Using notes he had made from Doctor Jackson’s mission files, the archaeologist attempted a series of override command to open the door, succeeding - mush to the delight of his escorts who believed they were wasting their time - after his eighth attempt.

Once inside he moved to the main control console and activated it. At this point, Henry encountered an obstacle he had been expecting. While he was more than capable of translating the alien languages on the screen, he was not qualified to turn on an advanced alien power core which had been dormant for generations. One wrong step could lead to a meltdown, an explosion, or worth.

“Miss Maccafferty, it’s Doctor Pratt,” he said into his radio. “I’ve found the power core and am attempting a restart, but I’m in need of your expertise. Follow the hallways south, the marines have dropped green glow sticks to mark the way.”

Since she was, for the moment, unseen or overlooked. She had activated her invisiblity system, mostly ot try and get her bearings. Out of the way of the humans, and thankfully not on Matthew Oxfords radar at that moment over what had occured only scant days before with the crystals. Madromas still had no solid readings on the things. Makes found herself following unseen and unheard behind Dr Pratt and the two soldierrs with him. As soon as the group ahead turned a corner she dropped the invisiblity and stepped in to the room as Pratt spoke.

She recognised everything in the room, power matrix controls were always on one wall. The powercore itself was a blue thing of sorts. Just barely decernible in the dark; yet with her nightvision activated she saw what she sought. Without a word, since she barely understood the science mumbo jumbo; she went over to the wall, raising up a hand hyolograps long dormant sprang to life. Controls pads, data screens, and other items floated on the wall surface. As if she had done it before she flicked through all sorts of 'pages' before fining the system control panel. Once activating it the hologram reset and all was ready.

She turned towards Pratt then, a calm look to her face. "ready, Doc ?" She asked. Madromas did a fast test; her analyis was in the green. Makes held a slender yet massive hand over what looked like a control setting. Waiting for his go ahead nod. After this was over, she was totally going to get herself smashed on Catmint. She needed it.

Beaming Room

He watched everyone scatter around to their appointed locations. For a moment he stood in the almost empty beaming room, tucking his hands in the pockets of his BDU's, he took the advantage of the silence for few minutes or micro seconds he was being given since the expedition had gated out. There had been a slight doubt if moving had been a use course of action, yet they couldn't have stayed in the outpost for the duration of their time either. A risk which he had not been willing to taken had to be considered when they first arrived, but time had come.

Adjusting his own weapon that was issued to him. He took the steps towards the door with Barker following him, not only the man was his secretary, Captain Oxford issued the order to the man to be his body guard as well. That man was starting to be become paranoid for his safety. Chuckling he moved down the hallway and stepping into the main area.

"Admiral," a voice brought his radio to life, "Gate room is secured if you like to take a look at it sir. Members assigned are in a process in setting things up."

Nodding at the message, he moved towards the building it was housed in.

Corridor

Fee was tagging along with the Captain, trying to appear interested in finding her new office. Really, she just wished she go off and find herself. She had a way she liked to set it up, too, which likely meant she'd had to rearrange things. Maybe Aear could help. He'd have to set up his side of the office, anyway. She finally found her place, and then backed up a little from the rest of the group, clearing her voice, and forcing her accent to not be harsh.

Sir, here we are.... She turned the knob, and then opened the door, letting out a deep breath. It would work.

Her radio bleeped, and she looked at it, in a bit of surprise. She was unused to anyone calling HER on it-usually, Fiala just yelled out orders. She answered, and heard Dr. Pratt's voice.

Miss Maccafferty, it’s Doctor Pratt...I’ve found the power core and am attempting a restart, but I’m in need of your expertise. Follow the hallways south, the marines have dropped green glow sticks to mark the way. She nodded...to herself, she reminded herself. After dropping her day bag on an empty chair in the room, she shut the door and made her way back the way she had come. Green glowsticks?! She kept her gaze down-mostly out of habit, but now she had a REASON. After several paces, she found the turn-off, and the green glowsticks. A guard stood in the hall to guide her-because, really, a tiny redhead was going to draw SO much attention-and followed the sticks. She arrived to find Dr. Pratt and Makes-Eternal-Everlasting standing in front of the core. She was unsure what Makes was doing, but she looked to Henry.

The glow sticks were brilliant. What's needed here? She looked at the power core-it SEEMED simple enough-and decided that it was old, but likely functional. I don't imagine it's much like a data center at MIT, is it? Something told her that it was NOT. She noticed he'd gotten some of the other power station started.

Good job on the rest, though. Ok. I think it's best if we take a look at what's running on the screen first-might have instruction. Makes can do...whatever it is she's doing. Fee nodded, and hoped that the older, taller woman would leave her to work.

As they arrived in the south side of the complex, Robert motioned for his team to fan out. "Find anything, report it to the Admiral," he told them. He wasn't babysitting, he told himself, but merely, keeping others safe. Seeing their cat friend was already a step, he shook his head, as he watched Pratt looking around. Nodding to the two Marines to stay put, he moved ahead into the room. Swinging his weapon which also had a flash light around the room.

Not that he was concerned about booby traps. It was more along the line taking precaution. Even if the generators were running on stand-by power, surely there would be more light. Now all he had to do was to wait till Pratt and NASA red head found the right buttons an brought the whole place to life. "Interesting," he muttered as he moved along the large room.

Henry jumped as lights and console turned on throughout the power that. “That, err, wasn’t me,” he announced. He had recalled reading that the technology of the Ancients sometimes came active when someone was near, which he suspected was the case, until Makes-Eternal appeared. He hadn’t seen her follow him in, but she was after all in possession of advanced alien technology, including a cloaking device.

“Thanks for that,” he replied. “Maybe just a bit of warning next time.”

Fiona joined them a moment later, having found her way to the power core. “It was built a couple of millennia ago by a species which seeded life throughout the universe, so no,” Henry added dryly. “I don’t think it’s anything like the MIT data centre.”

Pratt’s detached tone wasn’t due to rudeness, but was rather a telltale sign that the archaeologist was being drawn into his work. He had a tendency to ignore everything else around him when he was translating. “It’s interesting, there’s more of the native language here than I suspected. Might be the case that we’re dealing with something the locals built the majority of rather than the Ancients. There mightn’t even my a ZMP¹.”

Captain Oxford arrived a few moments later. “Nothing to report yet sir,” Pratt announced.

The translation was progressing slowly due to the over abundance of the native script, to which he was not fully versed. “There’s something here about relays being out of sync, that mean anything to either of you?” he asked Fiona and Makes.

As they stood there Fiala couldn't help but feel bored out of her mind, it was one thing to be a babysitter and another to do it will half the personal . She waited hoping something of interest would happen until she had enough and decided to forward her idea .

" Sir permission to scout on ahead . We could be here awhile and ...!"

Fiala tried to think of a good reasons why she needed to leave but her mind went blank, with that she began to rub her finger in a circle on her cheek and hold a sour face . With no voices in her head to help Fiala spoke the truth .

" Honest sir, I'm going to go crazy if I have to listen to all these words . I checked the map of this place earlier and up ahead , around the corner is what looks like an area of small lockers or what ever there called . We may find something of interests that could explain what happened to this place . Some times personal items told the most . "

Fiala had her back to Kelly, because of this Fiala crossed her fingers for Kelly to see with the hope she could get them free from boredom . Than in the sweetest voice she could pull shred spoke again .

" Of course, If you like big words you could lead the way,"her voice than shifted to the more serious tone ." There's enough security here and we'll be a shout away .

Fee glanced at Henry.

'Twas rhetorical, doctor. A few millennia, you say?! Because, yes, MIT DEFINITELY offered a class in "Quite ancient alien technology." It was offered summers, alongside "Basic Math for Dummies." NOT. He was the scientist here; couldn't he give her more to work with? Normally, she'd just dive in, with toolbox and a prayer, but a bit of fear, and respect for the massive machine, caused her to be more cautious.

There mightn’t even my a ZMP1. Fee nodded, half-listening, as she was tinkering with wires. It appeared to be a more traditional Relay, more like the types used in old-school switchboard-operated telephone systems and the like. This one, however, was likely electromagnetic, because it was faintly warm.

She was concentrating on the wires, and replied to both Henry, and then to the Captain, who had turned up.

Bloody right; ZMP wouldn't produce that sort of heat marker. Can you mayhaps find any sort of reference to power? I mean, generated power, not, like, a king... She specified. She eyeballed the Captain.

Sir, you mustn't touch anything. I can't guaruntee it's safe just yet. Is it possible for me to procure an engineer, some wire cutters, and a magnet? She wanted to run a few tests before they just went online. Also, some thistle tea would be brilliant, but I am betting I am pushing my luck with that... She confirmed her suspicions-copper wire. These planets, this local galaxy...they had copper long before it was discovered on earth. Copper meant longevity, which told her that the suspected thier machines to last awhile.

But what did that mean for her?

Roger was making his way down the hall towards the north. He had gathered his team-Dr. Tuck, and Sadie, and the rest of the military staff, along with Aear Charter. He stood in the hallway, and raised his voice.

Ok, people. Let's do this. Tuck, Kelly...you two need to get a triage area set up. I will handle the clinic and psych room. Mr. Charter, I have a special job for you. He led Aear out to the middle of the new clinic, and sighed. He had an idea, and he was pretty sure that Aear was smart enough to see through it, but maybe he'd play along for everyone's sake.

ANd you...I need you to supervise. You get to sit at the computer, move over the information from the last mission from my notes to the spreadsheets. AND you also get to tattle if someone is not working, ok? Roger realized it was stupid, but he really didn't have much use for Aear's skills otherwise. It wasn't like he was a medic, and the clinic was slow the first few weeks of a mission.

Aear followed Roger and the medical team as he was asked. Was he supposed to be an escort in case a kraken decided to smash down the door and target only the medical team? Honestly what exactly was he supposed to do with the medics. If Kana was around at least he'd have someone to tease. Roger was something of a leader at least.

Aear eyed Roger when he mentioned his special job. Did Roger actually expect him not to see through such a farce? He did have a concern about the nature of his work however. Wakaru. Shikashi. Aside from the fact that i'll have this work done in mere minutes. Just this first page of your notes... With my eidetic memory is this really a good idea? I wont be able to forget any of them. Not a single word or letter. Is that not a breach of confidentiality? Aear agreed but voiced out his concerns nevertheless. It was clear they wanted him off their tails but there must be something better for him to do. Right?

He led a small group of people towards the North Wing. The whole base looked vast from what he could make out. A size of the base that he never did imagine that they would ever find, let along occupy one. Till now. Admiral Oxford had assigned him to take the members of the security team and check out the North side. If it was safe, they were to set up the Armory. Whatever his doubt about this were he was smart not to voice them. Firing out a quick radio call to Gaines - the chief of operations - he opened the wing with a wave of his hand at the screening point or whatever the proper term might be.

As the door swished open, he was greeted by a long, yet brightly painted corridor. In awe he stepped through, as he admired the area for a nano second before he raised his gun, and heard the group who came with hm do the same, "Check out each room and secure it." He ordered, as he moved forward, hearing series of agreement, before the company disbanded to fill out their role. He still wasn't too sure about the young girl they had with them. To him she was far too young.

Light here was dim and it seemed that power here was still on stand by, "You don't have a magic spell hat would give a little light till SV1 get the power up and running, do you?" he asked Chiquita.

While he waited for her response, he clicked his radio, "Captain Oxford," he called to the Expedition's second in command, "Getting some light in the north wing would be much appreciated."

He stood not far from the doorway watching the group work. Leaning n the frame a little he wondered why his team wasn't off world causing trouble. On the other hand he didn't want to know why he was on the base either. Matt always had worked in weird ways, which Bobby never really understood, nor he ever tried to understand it. Looking at Fiala and Kelly, he tried not to smile at her explanation about how waiting was going drive them up the walls, "Granted," he confirmed, "We will leave gimme a second."

Walking over to the trio, he looked at Makes, knowing she a leopard didn't help the matters mentally so he kept a safe distance from her - wisely. If she got those claws out, he was sure he would be dead. Damn it, even Matt wasn't believing him. "Doc, Miss MacCafferty, Makes," Bobby spoke, "You guys have enough security here. SV-1 is going scout further south to see what can be found." A 400 pound giant cat was more than enough guard dog the two needed.

He was about to take a step back when Barker's voice came though, "And you are asking me because?" he asked the question in his usual blunt manner. He did not carry a wand in his pocket. He was not that Potter kid. "Pratt and Maccafferty are working on it. North Wing will soon." Didn't the guy had a magic kitten with him?

After giving a nod, he headed back to his two members, "By all means let's get going." He was trying to ignore the fact that they also had a dog with them, and made a move to take the lead.

Chiquita had been ordered to go with the security team to explore, secure and set up the north wing. She didn't exactly see why she had to go with a bunch of guys when there was enough female personnel to form a team. But orders were orders, what could she do? Petty Officer Barker opened the door into the north wing and lead the team inside. It seemed the power for this section hadn't been turned on yet as everything was dark. Not a problem for Chiquita but the rest of the team were running around with those torch things. She was given her orders to secure the rooms nearby. She did her usual dash into one of the rooms scanned the area and proceeded to cast some stun traps to secure the area. Once finished she returned to Barker's side and awaited further instructions.

Chiquita thought for a moment when she was asked for a source of light. Chiquita have one spell that give light. she said pointing her palm out in front of her. A dark purple orb appeared in her her hand. [Diabolic Howl] chimed Faraday before the orb exploded releasing a shockwave of light and sound flooding the area for a moment before everything faded. Chiquita looked up at Baker unaware of the ramifications of her actions. or the denseness she'd just displayed.

Fee hadn't waited for the Captian's response before getting to work. She didn't mean to be disobedient, but she knew that getting the power core up and running was the biggest function that would allow the BASE to be up and running. And her skills were best suited for that. She pulled out Amelia, and turned on the tablet's flashlight function, which she KNEW would come in handy someday. All the supercomputers had them, and she HAD told everyone at the first briefing...she was pretty sure. At any rate, she could see better the power core.

She REALLY needed an engingeer...where was Declan when she could USE him for some bloody thing? Rather like thier mother, wasn't he, not around when you needed some help. She sighed, and shook her head. She needed to FOCUS.

She pulled her Swiss Army Knife from her pocket, and started to inspect the wires. Fully intact. She turned once more to the Captain.

Was that a Yes for my engineer? Otherwise, I will need an escort to get some tools...should only take a few minutes.... [/b]She waited for his answer. Unless...you could reassign Aear Charter, to help me. At any rate, he knows my codes, and can go after things for me...I promise to not let him touch things. She would be responsible for him. Or try, anyway.

Power Core Fiala fell in to line as they began to make way down the corridor, at once she felt more at ease and back to doing something constructive . She was more than happy in letting Kelly take point with Shadow, by now she knew the advantages and watched first hand Shadow's capability in action . As she walked down the corridor she couldn't help but wonder how Oxford so far taught of her and Kelly . She hated to intervene in Oxford's way of working but seen him making way to take point made her jump in .

" He's good at his job, had a rocky start but he can finally make sense of it and proved he himself in battle already . Before you say anything I know you have something with Shadow as your trying to take point . " It was logical in Fiala's mind, she had been in battle, lead teams and the full works ." You wouldn't want to get on his bad side or Kelly also ."

She continued in her spot wondering if Oxford would hear her advise .
