OOC: Set between Episode Four & Episode Five

With measured steps and his brow furrowed in concentration, Doctor Pratt slowly crept his way across the commissary. His peculiar posture and movement was due to two large trays covered in empty glassware which he was moving from storage to a nearby table. While he was employed with the expedition as an archaeological consultant, tonight Henry was playing the role of dinner party host, his position dictated on strict orders by Admiral Oxford.

It had now been four months since the expedition had arrived here in the Vedas Galaxy, and tomorrow, they would be taking the big step of leaving their temporary outpost base and moving into the main base. To mark the big occasion, Oxford had decided that a social gathering should be organised, to look back over and celebrate their achievements to date. The selection of Henry as the coordinator of the event was mysterious, but he hadn’t objected. It did make an interesting change from his usual duties.

Fiala took a slow walk towards the area the celebrations was taken place, she was in a good mood and having all the paper work rapped up was even better . Since arriving to Vada she had everything under control . Most of all she was proud of her team, most of all Fiona and Kelly who had seemed to finally found there footing . Withers had shown just how experienced she was, she hoped some of that skill would brush off on Kelly and for Kana as much as skilled she was there was still a bit of her brother in her which Fiala feared would inspire Fiona to be reckless . Beside that she was still proud to be wearing her SV-2 badge .
Fiala had finally let her hair down to hang to which felt nice, she had also put on makeup . and not to a heavy extent but to a light extent . It made her feel like a woman again even if it was for only a night . Normal she'd wear a skirt or dress but they still had a lot of unknowns which prevented her for just in case she had to run and jump . But before anything she had one duty to do and she knew she'd probably be seen as the bad guy .

" Dr, how are the preparation going . I have a list of military and non-military personal I want to see clear of mind . It may be a celebration but there's still work to be done . If you can pass it out to who ever is helping you as there will also be a rotation of staff so all personal will get to celebrate it ."

They were moving, Bills noted and it was about time that they did. While she wasn't the one to throw a hissy fits over something minor like this. It had been taking too long to get from one point to another. Part of the reasons of it being late, she knew was that their Giant Head was happy with the security of place and whatnot. While to some it might come across as picky, Billie was glad that someone had taking time to make sure everything was all clear. Even some of their new found friends had helped.

Turning the corner, Witwer noted that their residential Archaeologist carrying two very large trays, placing her coffee mug aside on nearby table, she moved to grab one from him, "Looks like you can use a hand Doc," she gripped the sides of the top tray, and smiled at the man, "It won't be too heavy," she assured him as she lifted one.

Facing Skala, she blinked for a moment as she balanced the object in her hand carefully, "Rotation?" She was under impression that everyone had a night off or something. If Az had been here, she was certain that her best friend would pick on her for not paying attention. Oh how for a moment she wished her two besties were here. But they all had their orders to follow. Sometimes being a military sucked a bunch.

Matt's Temporary Officer

"Are you sure you are happy with the everything on the other base?" Robert asked for what felt like a millionth time since his brother had more or less told or announced -depending on how one saw the way the man talked- to everyone that they were moving, as he dropped the last of the files in the box that was open and looked at the Naval officer in the eye.


Not finding what he was looking for, Matt threw a glare at Bobby, "Do you want me to give you in writing?" He all but barked and bite his XO. Some days he did wonder if the Wizard was right in the head to send Bobby with him. He could have taken anyone, but Bobby. Not that he didn't love his cousin, yet the man could be a pain in the a$$ when he deemed it fit.


Wincing and grimacing, Bobby pulled out his hip flask and poured them both a shot of JD in their coffee mugs that were set on the Admirals table, holding Matt's out to him, the Coast Guards Captain drank his own in a go, "Did I ask for it on official paper?" He wondered if they both would be doing this 'answer the question with a question' game, they appeared to enjoy over the years.


"Smarta$$," Matt drowned his own shot before looking at the mug in musing expression while he enjoyed the flavour of the whiskey left in his mouth, "Where the heck...." Seeing Bobby grinning in a knowing look; the admiral should have known better than to ask about where the drink came from, chuckling, "Son of a gun." Setting the mug back, "You do have more, right?"

It was a dumb question, Bobby sat on Matt's chair and lifted his feet to the desk, considering the younger Oxford was always stocked with the goods, "Is that something you have to ask?"

Leaning on the wall, he looked at Bobby, and thought over the question, "I sure as heck don't want to know how you manage to get them here." He was honest, since the commander officer in him, just might throw the man in the brig for being drunk. Yet in the time they had been here, he had not once seen his brother drunk.

The Tech Office
Fee's desk

Fiona sat in front of the silent computer. She'd turned it off, and was just staring at the screen. She was uncomfortable; social occasions usually spelled trouble for the diminutive redhead. Mostly because she was a nerd, and not up on current pop culture, but also because she hated being in closed quarters with people, particularly men.

Maybe she could get Fiala to let her work. She would ask, anyway. She left the office, and went off to her quarters. After changing out of her stupid, itchy, too-large BDUs, before grabbing the six-pack of Guinness (she'd brought two on her gate through) off her night table, and heading for the commissary.

Commissary

Fee walked in, her red hair announcing her arrival in the form of flying waves before she actually entered the room. She'd been wearing a braid earlier, but had worn her hair down, as she often did if she was wearing short sleeves. She felt it was more modest, and warmer, besides. Without a lot of meat on her body, she was usually cold.

She hung by the door, then walked over and silently placed the six-pack on the table. She didn't look at anyone, but instead blushed and ran a hand over invisible wrinkles on her T-shirt.

She looked at Fiala.

Good evening, Porcieuk. Sir. She returned to the corner near the door.

Tonight was going to be a long night.

Mac's Office
Command Room

Mac was finalizing paperwork from the last mission. That had gone totally, horribly wrong. She made her case for a captain's mast to investigate, and filed it for the Admiral to read later. She stood up. She was already dressed for the little get together that night; the first night in awhile the entire group would be together. Mac wasn't sure what to expect-she was the only Marine, and the highest ranking female. She was also new, so she had no idea if Stargate people partied like Sailors, or if it was more or less like a boring dinner party.

She was dressed semi-casually, in jeans, a satin top, and a cardi for coverage. Her brown hair was brushed back, and since she was out of uniform, she wore it loose. A simple pair of diamond studs and light makeup completed her look. She looked less like a Marine, and more like a lady, and that was OK with her. She hardly got a chance to be in something other than dress blues, BDUs, or workout gear, and it was nice for a change.

She headed for the commissary, and smiled as she entered. She immediately headed for where Capt. Oxford, Dr. Pratt, Lt. Witwer, and Porcieuk Skala were gathered.

Hello. Captain, please let the Admiral know he has an important file awaiting. It can wait for tomorrow. Now, I've spent most of my adult life around Sailors, and I have to tell you, if this is a party, it's a sad kind of party. Let me find some plates. Someone cue some music. She got to work, setting up things.

Lieutenant Skala, a Czech officer and commander of SV-2, greeted Henry and handed him the duty roster for the party. Carefully placing the glassware down he accepted the piece of paper. “Thank you Lieutenant,” he replied. He would have liked to have addressed her in her native language, but sadly while he knew all manner of ancient and extinct dialects, Czech was not one of them. “And you remember to have have some fun as well,” he added with a smile as he continued to set one of the rooms many tables.

Thanks to the assistance of Lieutenant Witwer the final preparations were quickly finished. Colonel McKenzie entered shortly after, announcing that they would need some more plates and music to get things started. “Food should be coming out shortly,” Henry explained. The base’s culinary specialists might not have access to much in the way of fancy or fresh ingredients, but they had assured him that they would be going all out for this special event.

Kana entered the commissary with her siblings in toe behind her. They were all used to public appearances, all three of them had had their share of required attendance. Yet still Kana was the one dragging them here to entertain foreign dignitaries once more. One would think that after countless years they would have pulled their acts together and just got on with it. If One-sama could see them now.

Kana and Chiquita were dressed In their royal gowns that they had been forced to pack by their mother. Deliberately designed to make them stand out, they were royals after all and were the Queens most prized possessions so to speak. How many mothers didn't want to show off their kids?
Aear however had picked his imperial dress robes. He was after all military and sometimes he felt like he came from both families.

Needless to say the three of them made quite the entrance. Kana waited a moment forgetting that the usual fanfare and announcement was not going to happen here, before she lead them further inside. The three of them split up and Kana strolled confidently towards one of the larger groups. Porciek, Lieutenant, Fiona, Dr Pratt, Good Evening. she greeted them all in turn giving each a bow. She had to admit the party was not what she was used to but she dismissed the lack of ornaments as it bring a military party.

Aear did not want to be here. He was used to the idea of entertaining but it didn't mean he liked the idea. He waited for no one and headed straight for the food table.

Chiquita however shyer away into the corner she wanted to turn herself invisible but it had long been drilled into her. She had been taught to introduce herself to everyone first and as Fiona retreated into the anti-social corner with her she took the opportunity to do as little as possible to meet it. Fee-Fee, Konbonwa. she greeted with a bow. Now she introduced herself to some one she could be left alone she hoped.

Blueberry sat alone in the control her head rest on the desk in front of her, shamming sleep. She wax trying avoid the party. What would she accomplish at such an event at any case? If the higher ups had decided that she needed some down tine then she would comply by playing some video games she'd brought with her. There was too many people there in any case, mostly military with their obsession with weapons and brute force. Not her scene but unfortunately no one was asking her. She would have kept her farce up if her tablet hadn't triggered one of the alarms. Blue quickly silenced her tablet and disgruntledly stood up. This was going to be a long night.

As blue quietly entered the large hall that had been set aside for them to get their meals, she scanned the room. They weren't exactly unfamiliar faces any more but as far as Blue was concerned there was only one person on this entire base that had earned her trust. Her alien. She spotted him at the other end of the room demanding access to food. She let a small smile escape as she quietly watched him from afar. Some things never changed. She walked on into the room hoping to find an empty table or at least a table where she could be invisible at one end, though she realised there were some here that wouldn't let her stay invisible.

Sadie was standing in the hall, waiting for her husband. Men. They were always late. Finally, she spotted him, and smiled. He looked great. She was dressed pretty well, herself, in a floral dress with a jean jacket and her boots. Always boots. Sadie was a Southerner through and through and while she didn't alway draw attention to that fact, most people could tell by her slight drawl, and her manner of dress.

She walked in on Liam's arm, and smiled broadly. The place looked nice, and everyone (except Fiona, who was odd anyway) was dressed really up, some in dress uniform, and others in dressy civillian garb. Doc H had said she could wear what she wanted as long as the military Command didn't order a dress code, and thankfully, they hadn't. Mostly because Sadie had been putting off laundry.

She and Liam made their way to the tables where everyone had gathered, and said their hellos.

Hello, Dr. Pratt. Col. Mackenzie. Porcieuk, Lt. How are you this evening? She hoped she didn't appear to be a brown-noser; she was just simply THAT nice. Finally, the small chit chat ended with the commanders, and the two younger people were allowed to go mingle with their peers. Sadie kind of felt like she was back in High School at a dance-except, instead of boys on one end and girls on the other, it was "command" on one side, and "enlisteds" on the other. Maybe it would take the Civvies to be in the middle. The thought made her chuckle.

After depositing her jacket on the table, she crossed over to Fiala once more.

Is there anything I can do to help? I can assist the Colnel with the flatware and dinnerware, or else check with the kitchen staff. Later, I can play some music. I brought my guitar, if anyone is interested. Sadie sang-mostly hymns and the like, but she knew some old school rock and roll.

Medical Bay

Roger had excused his team early to get ready for the party. He, however, had stayed behind to finish some reports and to make some notes. He'd had a few sessions with Fiona, and with Aear as well, and wanted to present both of them with his final diagnoses and treatment plans the next day, as well as Sadie's. She was proving to be a difficult case-she wanted desperately to have a family, and he was doing his best to make that happen while still being mindful that they were several hundred lightyears from Earth.

He flipped off his computer, and took off his exam coat. He hated the "look" of being a doctor, but the Stargate was kind of strict, and it was hell of a lot better than when he heard Lucy's voice as he did his laundry, nagging to him about blood on his good shirts. He looked down at his current togs. He was well-heeled tonight, if he did say so himself. And he did.

Whistling, he turned off the lights in the Clinic, and headed for the Commissary.

1949 Hours
Commissary

Roger walked in, still whistling. He did that sometimes-it was his nature to be mostly chipper, though he had his moments of extreme emotion. He hardly showed it, though. His mammy always said his name should've been Job; he had that kind of patience. He surveyed the room. So far, he wasn't late. That was a change. He would be late to his own funeral one of these days.

He approached the older adults-the "commanders"-and spoke out.

Allo! Smells lovely. I've got some whiskey just here, he withdrew a bottle from behnd his back. He had brought it along with the idea that they might be going to some rudimentary places, and he'd have need for some old-school disinfectant. But tonight, they could drink away their ills. He placed the bottle next to the six-pack of Guinness-he recognized it as Fiona's drink of choice-and then turned to the Porcieuk.

I heard something about duty. Maybe I shall greet the others, and then someone needs to organize the troops. We need a proper line, and I shall see to it that we get some handwashing supplies. A bottle of sanitzing gel would that in a jiffy.

Dressed in his class A uniform with medals in the right place, Liam walked in with his wife Sadie.  After saying hello to everyone else, he went to get drinks for them.  While waiting, he looked back over to her and smiled a little.  Liam loved how she looked, forgetting for a few moments that she was an Army nurse.  He thought back to the day Sadie told him she was going into the army as well and the day they met at the Stargate complex.  The man at the bar soon handed the drinks over to Liam, who picked them up and walked back to Sadie.  "Here you go lass" he said to her while handing one of the drinks over to her once he was close enough to her.

Guests continued to pour into the commissary to join the celebrations. Keeping to their own personalities some kept to themselves, moving around the edge of the room and looking generally uncomfortable. Others moved into the centre of groups of people, confidently greeting those around them and making their presence known. The wide ranging variety of attire was striking. Some wore their everyday expedition uniforms, some wore formal military dress uniforms, and some were in casual clothes. The Vedas galaxy natives each arrived in unique outfits unlike anything seen back on Earth, including the Meowtians in their regal gowns. The academic in Henry was exciting to observe and explore everyone’s motivations for choosing what they had worn tonight.

As a significant number of guests were now present, Henry stuck his head into the kitchen. Far from a five-star restaurant, the expedition’s kitchen was mostly makeshift, using what little equipment they had brought along with equipment from other parts of the outpost. Doctor Pratt was certain he spotted some bunsen burners from the silence lab being used to warn a dish of pasta sauce.

“How we going chef?” he asked Petty Officer Hernandez, the culinary specialist in charge of tonight’s menu. “Entrees are just heading out now,” he replied, wiping a bead of sweat off his forehead. Chefs filled past carrying dishes ladened with what looked like small pieces of assorted battered cocktail seafoods. “Fish?” Henry asked. “From P-07-something-something,” Hernandez replied. Henry cocked an eyebrow in suspicion. “It’s safe, don’t worry, I had some last Tuesday.”

Unsure as to how the alien fish would taste, Henry followed the food out into the commissary and helped to set it out across the long tables. “Entrees are served,” he announced.

Setting the tray after following Pratt toward the table as he spoke Skala, Billie without further orders, "You are welcome, Doc," she replied as she moved to remove the glasses from the tray and on the table next to the drinks, "'sides, I don't think Oxford expects you do all the work alone." Doctor Pratt's skills and knowledge was something she had grown to admire. He was in many way different to others she had met in the same line of work as him. Each expedition she supposed that their own unique historian.

Pouring herself one drink, she looked around. They had survived so far, well at least someone knew what they were doing, or she could put it down to luck. Either way they were in for a long haul.

Taking a sip of the local galaxy's version of lemonade out of various drinks available, Bills had to try not to gag or make faces since the flavour was strong. Not just any strong, more like hard liquor strong. More out of couristy, the Navy officer took a sniff to make sure that it wasn't by any means spiked. She was sure that the base commander would have a field day with results of drunk ness if it ever happened.

Another sip, another expression on her face, she was sure this one would needs to be nursed all night. A whiff of something wonderful reached her nose, taking few sniffs of the aroma of the food, she felt her stomach protest in hunger as she followed the scent. Reaching there, she looked the dish, "Hernandez," she nodded, "should have know, he would whip up something. It is edible, right?" She asked after carefully looking at the main contends of the entrée. Not used to eating something that she wasn't familiar with.

[Aear Charter]

Aear had been standing at the table waiting somewhat anxously for the food to arrive. When he saw Dr Pratt and Lieutenant Witwer appear he gave them a huge grin. Finally! he said happily though his expression changed when the smell hit him. He been on Earth long enough to recognise many of the smells their cooking gave and whilst this was far from an Earthly smell he could tell it was not a smell vegetables could make. Aear's expression changed to something somber. Meowtians didn't believe in saiting their hunger with animals.

Marine critters right? he gave a weak smile. I guess that ones off for us. I'm sure it tastes great mind! said Aear letting out a somewhat awkward laugh. Gomen ne. he said placing his hands together in apology before heading off towards Kana. This was going to be a long night.
