Commissary
At the front of the room Sadie and Chiquita played together, combing the sergeant human Guitar rifts and lyrics with the Meowtians drum beat. The result wasn’t perfect, but it was by no means and an assault on the ears of those who were present. The archaeologist in Henry made a mental note to himself to converse with the Meowtians at a later date to find out about their musical traditions.
He was however occupied at the moment as Madromas, the artificial intelligence that accompanied Makes-Eternal-Everlasting, played him the music of the Fijitians. The melodies were soft and seemed to float through the air. Doctor Pratt wasn’t sure if they were produced by woodwind instruments such as flutes, but it had a similar sound. He’d have to get a recorded copy to add to the expedition’s cultural database.
The music had the unintended effect of waking Makes from her drunken slumber. She staggered around for a moment before Madromas was able to settle her back down. “I think we should get her to bed,” Henry suggested. Together the two were able to get her back to her room, where she reverted back to her natural appearance of a snow leopard. Henry tried not to stare as he didn’t imagine that she would appreciate it, but the experience was a little unsettling. While a Stargate veteran might have taken this in their stride, Pratt was still not used to seeing alien species.
Henry and Madromas returned to the commissary where Sadie and Chiquita were still playing. “Have you had much experience with the Meowtians?” Henry asked. “I’m finding their civilisation and society to be fascinating.”
