The Diplomat shrugged slightly. "It was necessary. You will learn, Captain Oxford, that few of the civilizations of this galaxy have any trust left to spare for outsiders. We had to learn, most other species would have killed you immediately. We cut our ties to protect ourselves after the Devas backed down and the Asura took over the galaxy."
"It doesn't have to be that way anymore, we've already been able to force back a significant attack from the Asuras, with the help of the Lyrians."
"You have spoken to the people of World? They were once our allies, but cut all contact when we did."
"And that's exactly the opposite of what needs to be done. Banding together, all of us in this galaxy, is the only way we can fight them."
"Perhaps." The Diplomat briefly addressed the Scientist. "Prepare for their exit and get the re-breathers they will need. Captain Oxford, you and your team will be allowed to appear before the Queen. You're about to be exited from the simulation to our hive."

Blake's first sensation was warmth and dense humidity that reminded him of the depths of a Georgia summer.
The second was the intense burning and he started to cough, before he felt himself unceremoniously grabbed and something hard and plastic shoved in his mouth.
A re-breather, he'd used one diving with Steve in the Pacific. Blake bit down and immediately could breath. He looked up at the Veerth scientist, he thought it was the same one and looked at his exposed hands, slopped with some kind of thick paste. The Scientist's mandibles chattered in useless effort to communicate.
The Diplomat approached, a graceful pseudohumanoid mantis. "The paste protects your skin, our carapaces protect us from the harsher elements of our environment. It is an unpleasant world, but it has kept the Asura forces at bay, as our environment kills most mammalian life."
Blake looked to see the other three team members in their own plug-ins starting to awaken. "Of course, it's an effective plan, though doesn't leave a lot of ability to make friends."
"We've had no need of friends for a long time, Doctor Warren."
