Name:
Aeternians (Pronouced "I-Tear-Nee-ens")
Age Range:
Current Aeternian Date: 7101.2.30 SFR (Since First Recorded)
Expectant Life Span:
Aeternians typically live around 100 Earth years. The oldest Aeternian in their recorded history lived to be 135 Earth years.
Appearance:
Aeternians appear human at first glance but have a number of traits that differentiate them from typical humans. Aeternians all have retractable razor-sharp claws on their fingers. Their extremities generally are scaled like a reptile; these scales diminish near the elbow and knee and turn into human tan-colored flesh. The scales usually are variously brown or green. Jutting up from their elbows are 30 cm long serrated blade-like spikes composed of dense proteins and enamel. Their core is unscaled (like human flesh). Their bodies are hairless, except for the hair on their head, which is usually dark black. They have no external irises, and thus, their eyes are solid black except for the whites of their eyes. Their height and built are comparable to humans, but due to sexual selection on the males of this species millions of years ago, males tend to have above average musculature compared to other humanoids.
Aeternians are actually long lost, genetically modified relative of humans. They were originally seeded onto the planet, now known as Aeternis, by the Ancients millions of years ago. With no stargate, the Aeternian people became isolated, forgotten, by their creators. Severe environmental change, natural selection, and several evolutionary bottlenecks molded the Aeternian humans into a completely new species of hominoid, capable of thriving in harsh, arid environments.
Supernatural Powers:
None, but they do have technological implants they developed from Ancient and alien technology, which at first glance, may appear like supernatural powers.
Description:
N/A
Type of Government:
The official government is a global commonwealth of city-states, called the United Aeternis Commonwealth (UAC) located at the UAC Senate Capitol. On Aeternis, there are 74 city-states, each with representation by a king or queen to the UAC Senate. City-states are allowed to rule themselves as they wish (typically a monarchy), but all science and technology must be freely shared among the other members of the commonwealth so that no other state has power over another. For the past 300 Aeternian years, the city-state monarchs have become more like figureheads representing their city-state at the UAC Senate than actual rulers. This shift in power has resulted in a society of democratic socialism.
The only military recognized by the UAC Senate is its own, the United Aeternis Space Fleet (UASF), whose sole purpose is to explore the galaxy and defend the planet from extraterrestrial threats. Those that join the UASF relinquish all former citizenship and swear allegiance to the commonwealth itself.
Technology Advancement:
The Aeternians are as technologically advanced as the Tau’ri (better in some areas, worse in others). Despite the lack of a stargate, the Aeternians eventually had access to Ancient technology during their own “space age” missions to Aeternis’ orbiting moon. There, the Aeternians discovered an Ancient city ship and partially destroyed alien spaceships. According to the ship’s records, the Ancients were returning to “checkup” on their once-forgotten creation, but were attacked by this unknown alien species. The Ancients won the battle, but were still forced to abandon ship. The city ship was set to self-destruct, but when it crashed on the planet, an error in the safety protocols overrode the command, leaving it abandoned on the moon. Having thought the planet was overrun by some new alien species, the Ancients decided to abandon their “project” altogether.
Luckily, the city ship and alien technology provided a foundation for rapid technological advancement. With time and patience, the Aeternians were able to develop their own advanced technology based off of hybrids of their technology, the Ancients’, and the unknown aliens’, much in the manner that the Tau’ri have developed technologically. Their greatest technological achievements include: 1) The development of space faring battlecruisers, capable of traveling through hyperspace and cloaking (but no shields); 2) Their own unique drone weapons, controlled from the battlecruisers; 3) The development of neural interface implants that allow knowledge, languages, etc. to be downloaded into their brains and implanted into computers. This technology even allows them to replay memories. All that is left of the Aeternian technology and culture is what’s aboard the 6 battlecruisers that were able to escape the destruction of the Aeternian home world on the other side of the Vedic galaxy.
Friends or Foes?
The remaining Aeternians just want to find themselves a new home. They thought that an Ancient base on the other side of the Vedic galaxy might be the home of their ancestors and might be their salvation. They were quite distraught to find out that the Ancients were not there, and that the base is currently occupied by their long lost siblings, the humans, who have awoken new enemies. Despite hostile tension within the Aeternian ranks, they have decided to ally themselves with the Vedas Expedition.
First Apperance: TBA
