Personality: Koren is very old-fashioned, sentimental and sensitive. Probably his sister Katie just rubbing off on him. He is very chivalrous in the old american west kind of way: touch my sister, brother or friend and I'll kill you. Because of Katie, he is very considerate and kind to women; holding doors, giving up his seat, helping them up and down tough terrain or awkward bulkheads/fuselages.
While Koren is very mild-mannered when it comes to women, he can be very feisty and frustrated with the chain of command. Koren believes in what's right, not what is military, and that conflict of interests has lead to many heated arguments and very close to a court-marshal on a couple of occasions. But if Koren respects his ranking officers as people, he'll respect their orders and authority.
Katie (Koren's Sister) is the most important thing in Koren's life. It's why he joined USAF and SGC, it's why he stood up to his parents, it's why he let Connor marry Katie; because she loved him. Everything that matters to him is whatever matters to her, and if Katie asked Koren to quit the SGC, he would. In a heartbeat.
And I must follow on the road that lies ahead,
I won't let my heart control my head,
I won't let my heart control my head,

History:
(Written Statement by USAF Counselor): Born in Seattle, Washington, Koren grew up in the suburbs called the eastside. Living a fairly sheltered life, complete with two parents made rich by microsoft's booming success in the 90's, Koren made many acquaintances in his childhood, but not many true friends. His closest companion, his sister Katie, was his princess. Since the parents were at work often, and the nanny AIMing people day and night, Koren took care of Katie as best he could, keeping her even more sheltered than he was.
When Koren got into middle school, he was bullied and pushed around. One day, a USAF airman observed Koren being bullied and pulled him aside and told him that the Air Force could teach him how to defend himself from bullies. Inspired by the airman's courage and confidence, Koren began studying, learning and imitating airmen all through middle school and high school until his parents finally let him go to the USAF OTS at Maxwell AFB, AL.
While there, Katie got married to one of Koren's fellow pilots and his close friend, Connor Wright, at the age of 18, just barely out of high school. Koren and Katie's parents were furious and threatened to disown Katie, forcing Koren to threaten to leave the family too if they did. They backed down on their threat and Katie and Connor lived happily for a year, but while on a close fire-support mission in Afghanistan, Connor was shot down and killed right in front of Koren, leaving Katie widowed and Koren devastated. Koren was right there at Katie's side, but their parents slowly backed away, not providing Katie any support and leaving the responsibility of supporting her up to Koren.
In light of Katie needing financial support, Koren seeked out the highest paying assignment possible from the air force. Koren was approached about a top-secret program in the USAF that promised to manage any expenses or care Katie needed so long as he accepted the position with no further information given. Koren, seeing no other option, accepted and entered the Stargate Program.
(Transcript from interview with OTS Commander): A little rough along the edges would be an understatement for this cadet. This boy was in serious trouble since the moment he set foot in OTS. Spoiled rotten, and proud of it, it took a good long while to whip him into shape. His GPA wasn't great, but it was clear that the money the brass were getting was what was pushing him through the door. That, and the boys conviction. He wanted to be here, not in the way most cadets say they want to be here when they really want to run home and cry to mommy. No, he wanted this more than anything. He wanted to be a hero, and we told him we'd make him one.
He scr**ed through every exam we gave him, but aced pre- and post-flight ops. He wasn't a natural at the stick, but put a few good wingmen on his left and right and that flight was unstoppable. His understanding of battle tactics was excellent, and his thirst to see the enemy burn…well, that was ultimately his downfall.
After graduating from OTS, he flew the standard deployment over Afghanistan. Close-air support, air-superiority, spotting, etc. But during a CAS flight, his wingman and best friend Lt. Connor Wright was hit by anti-air and went down hard, so hard a recovery mission wasn't even scheduled. This really shook the boy up, and he was out for blood. He engaged hostiles before being fired upon on his next flight was grounded for 2-weeks as a result pending investigation, which turned up that he was emotionally compromised, leading to his grounding for the rest of the deployment.
After returning to the homeland, they boy was taken into heavy counseling with his sister, the widowed Katie Wright, and was finally cleared for active duty 6 months later.
The USAF brass weren't so sure he was ready for another flight, but his leadership and adaptability to the raptors unique controls lead them and the SGC to a different idea; train him as an F-302 pilot. The theory being that they would ease him back into combat situations while still utilizing his unique skills as a leader. They placed him aboard the Odyssey and all was well until, on his second flight out, they came under fire from a single unidentified fighter who destroyed his entire flight. Koren managed to knock out the fighters propulsion when he was called to cease fire. Koren did so, proving to the USAF and SGC once and for all that Lt. Koren Telion was once again in control of his emotions.
(Official SGC records reference a 'Koren Telion' being assigned to be the flight leader of Eagle Squadron aboard the Iliad during the Delta Expedition, though the mission reports from Delta have not yet been received back at SGC)
(Written Explanation of consideration for SGV position) Koren was considered by the SGC for SGV due to his leadership capabilities, attention to detail and knowledge of the technical specifications of SG vehicles and equipment, as well as possessing the gene. Field trained and a decent shot, Koren will be an asset for the expedition and will be first hands-on with any foreign aircraft after inspection.

Skies over Afghanistan
"...And he put his hand on the butt of his glock, and with that stupid grin of his, he said 'yeah, this things fully loaded, safety on, ready for action," Connor began uncontrollably laughing, gasping breath as he tried to finish. Koren couldn't help but laugh out loud too, "And he started patting it...and the thing went off! ...shot through 2 decks! ...ole' Kev's facing the committee today!"
Koren's smile was wider than the sun as he laughed at the top of his lungs, "How...how could he be that thick! That can't be true!"
"I was there, bro! The look on his face...!"
Koren could almost see it; old Kevin Schicklee standing there, smoke pouring from his hip with the look of 'oh crap!' on his face. Koren just about lost it, "Oh my God!"
"Sir," Koren's FO spoke up, urgency in his voice, "Sorry to break up the fun, but we've got two on the scopes."
"Ok, you rascal," Koren said, looking over his left shoulder at the plane flying in formation with him, waving a finger at it's pilot, "Back to work." Facing forward again, Koren switched his right monitor to radar. Sure enough, two blips were registered on the edge of radar range. Still laughing a bit, Koren addressed his FO "Talk to me, Shaun. What are we looking at here."
"They're holding course, but no return IFF. Command?" He said, referring to calling in the targets. It was the safest move considering there were no other registered flights in this area today.
Koren switched his radio mode and keyed the microphone, "Command, this is Peregrine 1, over."
After a moment of silence the response came; "Peregrine 1, this is Command. Go ahead."
"Command, we have two unidentified radar contacts to our southeast. How should we proceed, over?"
Another moment of silence, this time longer, "Peregrine, Command. Assume targets are hostile. Do not attempt radio contact..." Koren felt a tap on his shoulder from his FO and glanced down at his radar again and his heart skipped a beat; the two contacts had changed course to intercept his and Connor's formation, "...-fire unless fired upon," Command continued, "I repeat, ROA: do not fire unless fired upon."
"Well, crap," Koren said under his breath, switching his radio back over to Connor's frequency,
"OK, Lieutenant," said Koren, his code to Connor that the pleasantries were over, "ROA on the two bogies is classic."
"Right," Koren heard Connor swallow hard, "What do you want us to do, chief?"
"Arm countermeasures only. Hold course and stay alert."
Koren switched on his HUD and readjusted his straps. Hopefully this would just be a flyby.
OK, Koren thought, letting out a sigh, Now we wait...
