And I will stand for my dream if I can,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
Personality: Open and honest, bluntly so, and unafraid to push other people's boundaries and ability to tolerate him. Hates being coddled or otherwise treated like he's helpless for being a civilian, he's been an unoffical Marine spouse for 12 years, thank you and his partner is a gun nut. New civilizations and people to meet will always bring out the best in his personality, and he can swallow his typical sarcasm to try to make a good impression on a high-ranking officer for Steve's sake.
And I must follow on the road that lies ahead,
I won't let my heart control my head,
I won't let my heart control my head,
Likes: Meeting peaceful people and absorbing their culture
Getting an entire day to study the peaceful people without anything exploding
Good movies and movie nights with Steve
Intelligent people who aren't afraid to show it
Dislikes: Being overly protected
Willfully ignorant people
Intelligent people who feel the need to play stupid to "fit in"
People who can't step outside their own cultural bubble and understand others
Aims: Be integral to making a new, powerful ally for the Vedas Expedition
Learn more of the possible facts behind Hinduism among the aliens of Vedas
Write and finish off a doorstopper treatise on the cultures of the Vedas Galaxy
Fears: Losing Steve in some stupid and pointless way off-world
Running into a hostile culture he can't cajole
Running into a culture so alien to humans that communication is utterly impossible
Being looked down by other academics for the sways and bumps his own work has taken due to his unofficial Marine spouse life
Skills: Strong ability to manage to communicate without a common language
Understanding other cultures quickly and operating within them
Fluent in four languages (Russian, Hindi, Hebrew and Pashto) in addition to his native English (he doesn't count being fluent in American Southern English)
Habits: Slips from a careful "broadcast neutral" accent into a very Southern one when upset or scared, and will always be embarrassed by it
Talks with his hands a great deal
Tends to either hands on hips or arms crossed when making a point, depending on his mood
When faced with truly hilariously terrible behavior will usually remark in his strongest accent, "As my Mama used to say, y'all need Jesus."
I make my journey through eternity
I keep the memory of you and me inside
I keep the memory of you and me inside

Daniel Warren (younger brother)

Fulfil your destiny,
Is there within the child,
History: Blake was born and raised in Peachtree City, Georgia, and sounds like it in his weaker moments. He grew up the son of the local Southern Baptist preacher and a Southern belle homemaker, who struggled to accept their son but were forward-thinking enough to know that completely throwing him out would not help.
Blake graduated from McIntosh High School in the top 5% of his class, and no he does not find any jokes about the insignificance of being top of the class in the Deep South funny. Blake enrolled at Georgia State University in Atlanta, believing this was the biggest city a Peachtree boy would ever get to. During his college years, Blake married briefly but the marriage failed in spectacular fashion two years later. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics and the mild enmity of his ex-wife and ex-best friend Sarah
Then one night at a bar, hours from the nearest base, he took his life in his own hands and asked a Marine second lieutenant to dance, reasonably sure after watching him for half the night that he wasn't going to take a fist in the face. A night of competitive heavy drinking followed by a morning at Waffle House on the GSU campus created a six-month friendship that Blake took the initiative to turn into something else.
He hadn't yet chose a school for his graduate work when the Marine Corps sent Steve back home to California, and Blake didn't mind the idea of leaving the South behind for the Pacific coast. Blake took his PhD in Anthropology and Social Change at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, while living with Steve's mother and found so many things making more sense about his boyfriend, and while convincing Anna that, really, just because he has a hick accent in his unguarded moments doesn't mean he's been abducted by aliens before.
Blake gained his doctorate with honors from USF and committed himself to the bumps of following Steve. This path led him through various government work, including a brief stint working with the residents of the Bridgeport Reservation and Bridgeport Indian Colony. Blake pushed the next phase of his relationship when he asked his boyfriend to move in.
Two days of having Steve focused on a bit of "outside work" soon led to another move to Colorado Springs, and Blake landing an adjunct professor's position at the University of Denver. It was while he was acting to tutor a rather unexpected pack of military students on the Paiute Indian Tribe that he found himself offered a job that was far more interesting than getting paid much less then the tenured professor to teach undergrads.
Blake had been at the SGC and on SG-11 for a month when he ran into a man he'd only really properly met in the past couple of years: Major Stephen Hamrick. They still managed to operate professionally around each other and avoid being off-world on the same mission. Until the Vedas Expedition, which Blake was desperate to go on, but almost declined until Steve bit the bullet and agreed to his own offer to go. After one long good-bye at the 'gate, Blake went with the first wave of the Vedas Expedition. After several months of being under the radar, tracking down a long-forgotten alien creature, Blake was picked by Captain Oxford to take up the social sciences side of SV-1.

Role Play Sample: Dr. Blake Warren turned the video in his hand. Everybody in the Vedas anthropology section had told him he shouldn't watch it, they already had to draw their conclusions about the culture, attitudes and intentions of the Cho-win and strongly said that Blake shouldn't watch it.
But he had to know. With a chest, arms, legs, head, everywhere, that still bore the pink scars that couldn't be anything else but a thorough dissection. And he had to know. Of course, the reasons were obvious, he'd said that much to Admiral Oxford without ever seeing the tape.
Like Vlad the Impaler and the Turks of old, it was about intimidation. Grabbing the team, killing them, dissecting them, and then, to show off their massive technological superiority, putting them back together and bringing them back to life, bearing the scars that the Cho-win could have gotten rid of easily as a message.
He put the disc in his laptop and started it. 'Like my nightmares need more fuel.' But he couldn't stop himself, as the video played. How the team had been stunned in their cell, the Cho-win scientists had entered and gave all four people injections. Dr. Harrison had said their bodies showed the aftereffects of cyanide poisoning, at least he was pretty sure that was what the metabolic products were. You didn't usually look for lethal cyanide poisoning in live people, after all.
Blake swallowed, he'd been dragged out first, limp in a way that nobody could mistake for anything but stone-cold dead. The video jumped to the cold, clinical Cho-win laboratory as it took two of the slim, reptile-like Cho-win to pick him up, throw him on the table, and they hesitated, briefly pulling his BDU jacket away from his body. The audio kicked in then. "Clothing, not part of the animal's body."
"Remove it." They made quick work of that, untying and tossing his boots aside, and using surgical scissors to cut away the clothes.
The Cho-win were about to start cutting when a large hand came in from behind Blake and pushed the stop button. "Blake, you do not need to watch this."
