Mac's Office
The Stargate

Mac sat at her desk, a highlighter in one hand and a red pen in the other. She was a TINY bit annoyed. She was tired of missions, and wanted to do actual case work. Couldn't one of these pretty boy pilots sexually harass a girl already?! Ok, so that wouldn't be OK, actually, but really. She might be a Marine, but she was a lawyer first and foremost. She had four years of civillian law under her belt to prove it, too. 

She gazed at the clock. The infernal thing was already telling her it was time to go be a Marine instead of a JAG. She gathered her gear, and her team into the Gateroom. She made them into a ragtag platoon, and started her usual pre-mission pep talks. 

Lt., Charter. It's good to see you two again. We have a few new faces; Declan Murphy, and Ms. Lequana Ka'ti. You two will make them feel welcome, I know. Now, our mission is simple. Gather as much intel as we can about higher life forms. If anything else happens while we're there, I advise to just take a peaceful stance, ok? I will give you all the watch schedule when we arrive...Let's go! With that, she turned away, and headed through the gate. 

She arrived on a beautiful planet. At least that damned Oxford-BOTH of them-sent her to halfway-decent places, which is WAY more than she could say for the Corps. She turned two, and watched as the rest of her team made their appearances. She grinned. 

Ok. Ya'll made it. Great. So. Telion, pick two. I get Charter. THe rest of us will go THIS way, and we'll meet in the middle. She pointed first to the left, and then to the right, and then gave the order to fall out. They'd set up base camp when they arrived. And hopefully, there would be no mummified ruins to rain on their parade this time out.

Stargate

A couple of week spent between the outpost and newly discovered base were extra my interesting especially for a techno nerd, as he was sure that's how he was perceived by most. Then came the part he was not quite so sure of a gate team assignment and a trip though the thing.

As he stepped though onto another alien world he looked around taking a few steps away from the star gate itself. At least he had been put with Col. MacKenzie, although she managed to be sccary at times. Plucking the tablet from his back he plugged in the keys to bring up the diagnostic functions, specifically those that looked for energy and radiation readings, indications of technology. He was engrossed enough to only part hear the order of who was going with who and where. He looked over at Lt. Telion, who was starting to walk in a given direction, trying and failing to stick the tablet to the holding tabs on his back while on the move. Dec tucked it under one arm gabbing his weapon with the other and scrambled off to catch up, going who knows where on an alien planet what could go wrong?

Lequana stood there feeling like a sixth finger, of no use and just there for the sake of it It felt strange walking through the stargate again and back to exploring again . The last time she went through the stargate was to her former teams doom . In ways she felt guilty for been the one that was left alive, but as the medical team had showed her, was that she could let her team stay alive in her and her people too . But the main reason she had stepped back through the gate was to see if any of her people were still alive .
Lequana took a step forward and took a deep breath taking in all the fresh air again and finally feeling freedom again or more . Since meeting the Tau'ri she had found them a lot more liberal from her own people, it was strange and something you had to get use too . The amount of time they expected to have off for leisure and the amount of time they took to sleep was weird . She stood there patiently wait orders .

Near the Stargate

Aear stepped out from the gate into another alien world. Aear was already used to the idea, but he was an alien as far as the Tau'ri were concerned. He looked around the lightly wooded area for a moment. He wandered off to the right with Mac putting his MaDaR on maximum. Listening to the mana streams he picked up a number of people in the distance. Hey Mackie there's like a settlement or at least a bunch of people about a mile in that direction. He said pointing out his findings.

Mac wasn't about to allow what happened LAST time to happen again. She was glad her team was a little bigger; more eyes on Aear AND the inhabitants would be helpful. She started off to the left, her sunglasses hiding her face, and her hat was pulled low against the sun. She was decked out in full on desert camoflauge, but this was how she made the point that she was PO'd about another pointless mission. She would never overtly act out, or say anything, but she wouldn't wear the ugly, itchy Stargate uniform, either. She wasn't THIER Marine, she the US's Marine. She felt just a little childish, but she didn't care right now.

Aear interruppted her thoughts.

Hey Mackie there's like a settlement or at least a bunch of people about a mile in that direction. Mac sighed, and then looked in his direction. She actually was looking AT him, but he couldn't see that. She made her lips into a thin line, and then raised the radio to her lips.

Telion, double back. We're going to need all hands on deck for this one. To Aear, she spoke.

Aear, when the others get here, I need you to do another fly over and investigate. We'll be pounding the ground, searching for what we see. Take your weapon, just in case. And this time, fly however you want. You've earned my trust. She stopped then. It was true, but no need to make it sappy. Sappy wasn't her style,and it was gross, besides.

As the others approached, Mac gave out a few orders.

Charter, go. Aear found a settlement or villiage or something. Murphy, give me some data, please. Telion, scout ahead. Ka'ti, you will...well, stay close to me. Murphy, after you do what you do, get your gun and catch up with the Lt. Lequana and I will bring up the rear. About a mile north; if you're not there in about 30 minutes, I will send Aear out after you. With permission to sing. Everyone ready? Let's go. She knew that she was talking-she gave orders fast because she ran a tight ship. It was just how she was a leader.

She gave a small smile to Lequana. She hoped that the civillian woman wouldn't be too taken aback by her casual behavior. Mac straightened herself.

Aear raised an eyebrow at Mac, was she really suggesting that he do an aerial recon this time? Sure he loved flying but he didn't think it was appropriate this time. His mana stream gave him away and probably looked like a shooting star or something to the locals, that bright white streak in the sky behind him wasn't going to go unnoticed.
Are you sure about an aerial recon? It's not like i'm invisible when I fly. Not too sure the locals would see a shooting star in the middle of the day as a good sign.

She couldn't help but wonder how different an operation worked with the Tau'ri, by now they would be receiving data from the pre-operation drones which were standard with her people and by now she would have received local area mapped by the drones by now . Her contrivance would be lightening up on all types of data and all possible types of information . But as for now she had to do it with out all the extras she was use to, she hit few buttons having to try and get the information old style .
With her arm raised a flow of information appeared on a holo screen just above her arm, no bigger than her wrist and to the length of her elbow .
She listened to the discussion on Aear's flying, but kept attention to her duties as was required if she wanted to make an impression . " Forging data . Mac listened to each person's input. Aear went first, offering his concern about his flyover.

Are you sure about an aerial recon? It's not like i'm invisible when I fly. Not too sure the locals would see a shooting star in the middle of the day as a good sign. She sighed. He DID have a point.

Next, the alien, Lequana, piped up.

Forging data . Radiation levels are higher, but with in limits , O2 levels are high, CO2 is low and detecting SO2 in the air . They are no threat as I'd verbalize that the eruption is far from are location . From the gravity and contrivance refections I'd verbally express were on a Luna ...If Aear doesn't mind linking up with my feed I can give him an extra per of ocular perceivers if he needed. Yeah. Mac was going to need a translator. Instead she just nodded twice, then bit her lip. She looked at her second in command, Lt. Telion, and his expression was what she'd needed to see. She spoke again, her voice and tone firm and matter of fact.

Ok. Thank you two. Lt. Charter, you are correct; an aerial exercise at this time of day would be idiotic. I am changing orders, gather up. Charter, you and Ka'ti, scout what you can on the tech front. The three of us left will go ahead into the villiage. ARM yourselves, but keep calm. I need a report back in an hour. Fall out. Go. With that, she turned back to Lt. Telion and Sgt. Murphy.

You two, let's go. Villages. I think I am getting too old for field work anymore... She secured her weapon to her waist holster, and fipped down her sunglasses. She desperately missed her desk right now.

Just south of town square

Koren nodded at Mac's orders and took point. The expedition could loose a pilot, but a JAG was an important asset to Stargate, and though Shiva was bringing reinforcements, Mac's ability to command a squad had all but assured her place on a team, whether she liked it or not, Koren got the feeling. Koren pulled out his tablet and brought up the map, which looked like a video game map from the Starcraft series; the MALP's telemetry data was superimposed upon a black canvas at the bottom of the screen, with him, Mac and Declan's tablet indicators moving Northwest, and Aear and Ka'ti's magical signatures staying near the gate. Koren sidled his weapon and took off his sunglasses, putting them away and pulling out another pair which were untinted a little heavier.

"Now's as good a time as any," Koren said to himself, putting them and pressing the button near the temple. Two horizontal lines crossed Koren's vision both vertically and horizontally, eventually resting in the center of his vision. They then combined and expanded into a grid, which then dissolved as the glasses quickly tinted and a HUD began to appear. At the bottom right was a readout stating which firing mode the P90 was in and how many bullets were left in the magazine; at the bottom left, a miniature version of the map centered on a quarter mile radius around Koren; Each of the team members were lightly outlined in white, and when Koren brought his P90 back up, a projected bullet-flightpath was mapped onto his HUD. With a couple blinks of the eyes, Koren removed the bullet prediction and ammo indicators and placed a larger, circular version of the map at the bottom of his vision. Linked to his tablet, so long as Koren stayed within a mile of it, these glasses would operate, and if Koren was taken prisoner or missing, the tablet could ping the glasses and locate him if necessary.

Observing the map that was now filling out from Aear and Ka'ti's scans, Koren spoke up. "Hey Mac," Koren said, jogging a bit to catch up to his CO, "It's not that I don't trust Aear, especially after last mission, but I think it'd be best if I scouted out that ridge to the town's West a bit. I can circle around and give you guys Overwatch from there."

Mac sniffed in the air around the planet; it smelled fresh, like it was clean, untouched by smog and grime. It smelled like the Arizona desert. Maybe some honeysuckle. She couldn't place it exactly, but there was something familiar about it. She felt the soft earth beneath her boots. If only she could kick them off, and walk barefoot. She was a leader, though, so there wasn't much room for play. She sighed, and glanced to her right. Her team was following. Good. She had no discplinary problems so far, and she intended to keep it that way. She ahdn't been sure about Charter, but he'd turned out Ok.

She noticed Telion taking up the rear. Good. She was still going to recommend him for a promotion. She just needed some TIME to do something other than reports and mission stuff. She trained her eyes forward as they moved a bit. She scanned the horizon. So far, so good.

She heard Lt. Telion's voice as he sidled up to her.

Hey Mac...It's not that I don't trust Aear, especially after last mission, but I think it'd be best if I scouted out that ridge to the town's West a bit. I can circle around and give you guys Overwatch from there. She nodded once, and turned around.

All of you. Halt! The Lt. here has offered to go scouting. Lt, go. Charter, Ka'ti...cover his six with your tech. Murphy, you and I will move forward. All orders stand as modified. Charter, Ms. Ka'ti is a civilian, and should be treated as such. Keep her safe. Or else I will switch out Murphy with you. Make the call, but I think you can handle it. Keep your radios on. No funny business. Let's all meet up in an hour or whenever Telion has something. Move out. She turned back to Koren.

Ok, Telion. Go. Make sure to keep your weapon close, but in case of contact, report back IMMEDITEDLY. See you soon.

Aear listened to Lequana, he sort of understood what she meant. It wasn't easy but he got that she was analysing the atmosphere and offering to share her vision. Aear pondered for a moment on how he'd process the data. He'd already set up a link from Curie to Cyleo, he didn't want direct access to his head even if Cyleo would filter it he just didn't like the idea. Sounds good, can you send it to Curie? I'll be able to see it with my left.

[Device Form. Projecting slave.] Chimed Cyleo as Aear's double-bladed sword appeared on his back and a pistol appeared in his hand. He span the pistol round and offered it to Lequana. Not sure if you can process mana so I've set it to collect from the atmosphere. He explained. It wasn't going to do any real damage, it was probably more of a anti-riot weapon if anything, but it would be something and would be at least a distraction if someone did try to jump anyone. Then Aear could blast them away.

Aear heard both Mac and Koren, if he thought he was out of Aear's cat like hearing range then Koren was mistaken. He was glad that he'd earned the man's trust and Aear had to admit he did keep a level head and a sharp mind. Aear didn't fully trust Koren yet, he didn't trust any of these Earthicans fully yet, but he'd have Koren's back all the same. They had a job to do afterall. Aear considered both Koren and Mac's comments on Lequana before deciding on his course of action. [Hikari Shooter Silent Running.] Cyleo chimed some more as Aear pointed his sword into the air and fired off a dozen golf ball sized bullets into the air. They didn't leave the tree cover before they split into 2 groups one heading to cover Koren and the other to cover Lequana. A modified version of one of his spells the fly by wire bullets turned invisible before circling their escorts. Not much in terms of raw power but enough to take someone off their guard especially if they came out of nowhere.

She had little contact with this mana afore and was still endeavoring to understand it in more detail but had little progress . Her hand reached for the pistol , but at the last second her hand paused as recollections flooded back and kept her from taking the pistol . Lequana could feel her nerves getting the better of her and her nanites going in to over drive all because of these rouge nerves . She had been trained with many weapons, she wasn't the best of shots but she held the basic knowage how to point the fire and still it was the recollections that held her from taking it .

" I'v optically had enough of weapons to last me a life time and I'm .." she ceased mid sentence not wanting to verbally express something that might sound vulgar or insulting . I'm sorry for that but if it's ok I refrain . I'm not yare to hold a weapon yet ." She tapped afew buttons on her arm in hope it would relax her nanities, but her effort was in vain as she felt the electric plus of her nanties as they went crazy from her emotional burst . It would only last a few minutes if she managed to relax her body . The nanite pain was something her people were use too by now, the pain was a light electric volt running through the nerve system and would run till her body calmed down . Till than she could only wait . She decided maybe if she detract herself it would avail .

Mac moved forward, carefully. She was armed, but trying to keep calm. She was now happier to be out here-it always worked like that for Mac. First, she was annoyed, but then the action happened, and her Marine kicked in. She was now really operating on bad coffee, adrenaline, and smug satisfaction. She quickly made some mental notes-if there was a villiage, but no people, then how were there buildings?? That meant there either WERE people or HAD been people...well, alien life forms, anyway-at one point in time. And if there WERE life forms still living on this planet, they'd have to have some sort of defense mechanism in place. It would be too dangerous for them to be sitting ducks. So then...how and where were the soliders/police/air patrol/whatever? She raised her radio.

Command to Charter, Telion, and Ka'ti. What do you have so far? She switched beacons to Koren's radio.

Lt., I got an uneasy feeling that we're being watched somehow. Any signs of life?

I'v optically had enough of weapons to last me a lifetime and I'm... I'm sorry for that but if it's ok I refrain . I'm not yare to hold a weapon yet.

Aear looked at Lequana with a concerned look on his face. He knew all too well how memories could haunt you. Hs made him afraid just to close his eyes but he only knew one way of doing things. We have a saying Meowtis; 'We'll confidently stride towards the endless future.' The idea is that we constantly move forwards. If we let the past take control of us then we won't be going anywhere. Aear used the gun he had formed to shoot Lequana in the shoulder. It would hurt but it wouldn't cause any damage. It was more like getting shot with a paintball in any case. You're not going to cause any damage but you can still create an opening. Aear grabbed Lequana's arm and placed the gun in her hand. I know what it's like but shying away from it is only putting everyone else's lives at risk. Aear smiled at Lequana hoping to comfort her somewhat. He knew he was pushing her but he didn't know other ways of doing things. She could hate him for it but so long as it helped her move on and it kept everyone safe he didn't mind.

Aear forgive me I don't optate to be fulminating you but why do your race and Tau'ri feel like they have to give names to objects . I'm apologetic but in my culture you'd get locked up and forced to dig the frozen dihydrogen monoxide tunnels for been crazy .

Aear just grinned at Lequana. When I build a machine it's more like it's one of my children. It just wouldn't feel right NOT to give them a name... Not that I built Cyleo mind you that's just his name from before we met. He added holding his right arm up to illiterate. "Hello."] Chimed Cyleo in response.

Aear heard Mackie's voice in his head, well sort of. Cyleo was still routing the radio to the telepathy. Aear: Nothing yet. I can do a MaNaR scan but if there's anyone here that can detect energy waves they'll see it. Would tell us what's within a 5 mile or so radius though.

She turned to Koren, lowering her voice. "Ok, Telion. Go. Make sure to keep your weapon close, but in case of contact, report back IMMEDITEDLY."

"Of course," Koren said, checking his P90 and chambering a round,

Mac nodded, saying "See you soon."

Koren nodded in response and turned off the path and into the dense foliage, back-tracking a bit. This was the kind of work Koren was used to in the field. As a pilot for the USAF, Koren was trained in foraging and evading hostile and even native contact, and through his training with the Stargate program, knew how to observe and determine the safety of a situation. Koren doubled back on their route and did a wide arc to the west, climbing a short ridge. As Koren approached the top, he lay prone and crawled to the peak and, with a couple of blinks, zoomed in on the town in the valley below.

"Command to Charter, Telion, and Ka'ti." Mac buzzed in, "What do you have so far?"

"Aear: Nothing yet. I can do a MaNaR scan but if there's anyone here that can detect energy waves they'll see it. Would tell us what's within a 5 mile or so radius though."

"Lt.," An indicator on Koren's glasses' HUD blinked 'PRIVATE,' indicating Mac was comming Koren directly. "I got an uneasy feeling that we're being watched somehow. Any signs of life?" Koren surveyed the town. Clothes still on hangers, fires still smoldering a little...Mac was right; something was off here.

"This place looks empty, Mac." Koren said, responding on the private frequency, "There's nobody outside, but it looks like either they left in a hurry..." Koren's eyes hit a rack which might have contained spears or bows of some sort, but it was completely empty. Convenient, how the armory is the only thing that seems to have been carefully picked over. "...or they heard us coming."

Koren switched his comms back over to the global comm, "Hold off, Aear. I think that might just cue the welcoming party."

Koren switched back to Mac, "Hey, Mac, it's you're call, but you might want to have Aear hold back with Lequana. I hope this isn't an ambush, but if it is, having a civilian in the line of fire might-" Koren broke off as he felt something metallic dig into the small of his back.

"Finish your sentence," a voice said from behind him.

"-might be a bad idea. Koren out." Koren turned off his comm, "It's off"

"Ok. Put your hands out to your sides and do not move a muscle." A sharp female voice spoke intensely.

Koren did as he was told, but moved to get up, "Ok, Ok, just don't-" The metal stabbed further into his back, making Koren wince.

"That includes your mouth." The voice said with a slight smile, "Don't make me threaten you. It's below the both of us."

Koren blinked once, opening the last comm channel he used, which was the private line to Mac, and was about to activate the distress signal when a pair of auburn hands reached around and batted off his glasses, but the damage had been done; Koren's comm was on, so Mac would be able to hear everything that happened next. He lay face forward as the female removed his side-arm and unstrapped his P90, pulling it sharply out from under him. She then patted him down thoroughly with one hand, the other keeping the metallic object sharply in his back, removing his computer and tossing it into the trees. He could feel her taking his provisions and his ammo and pulling off his dog tag, then she began to search his hair. Seemingly unsatisfied, she checked his ears and upon inspecting his right ear, she found his comm unit and pulled it out. Koren could hear it being crushed under her foot.

"Ok, Koren," she said, having read his dog tag, "Get up and walk."
