The Comms Office


Fee was sitting at her desk, getting things organized. Aear and Declan were a little messy, and Post-its. pens, and manila folders littered the work table. After a few frustrating minutes, Fee finally had everything back in it's place. She let out a sigh of relief. It always calmed her when things looked the way they should. She could THINK. She could work. She would more effective. 

She got some tea for herself from the electric kettle one of the engineers had rigged, and settled back in her chair. She had a few appointments today-Dr. Harrison, for a psych session, the Admiral, for a briefing, and the alien being, Makes-Eternal-Everlasting, to co-ordinate systems and hopefully make things run smoother. Makes would be here any moment, and Fee set about plaiting her long rust colored ponytail, and then she turned on the base-wide speakers, just in case she was needed. She started an email to Sammy while she waited, and was mostly ready to send it off when a knock came at her door. She raised her head, and spoke.

So far only four people knew what she really was. Of these humans, they were crazy. The look on Matthews face made it even better when Bob tried to grill him of sending a massive cat after his team. Of course the plan at the time was no to go to a Fijitia Hunting Ground, but thankfully they never met up with Ritual Hunters.

[/You are sure of this ?/] The Ancilla, Madromas, asked as the tall human looking woman walked along a hall.

'Yes' Came the wordless thought of a reply.

The tall woman halted a moment. then thought. 'I am building trust. The woman wanted to harm one of the lesser races. I protected him. She does not trust me, so why would she ask me to help her set up communications ?'

Makes smiled to herself, 'That wont be needed' She thought as she gave a knock on the door. Upon hearing the notion to enter, the tall black haired woman did so. She stood for a long moment without saying anything until finally she said, in very poor english. "You want see me."

'Stuff it into the deep cycle drive Madromas Makes thought back, the Ancillia chuckled and qent silent

Fee stood as she heard the knock at the door. She waited for Makes to enter, and nearly laughed as the woman came in.

A very tall brunette and tiny redhead. The contrast was startling.

That wont be needed...You want see me. She nodded, and indicated a nearby chair.

Yes, I did. Thanks for coming by. I am trying to learn more about alien technologies, and also, I am fascinated by you. And Aear. She and Aear were getting on betterthese days, thankfully. They were almost even friends.

"Facinated. In what way." Trust had to be built, and therefore, she was going to build it. Somehow. Thanks to the recently activated Ancilla vision, Makes saw everything in a unique way. Gridlines of triangles constantly moving, like a net of some form, floated over certain objects. Door controls for example. Only items that Makes could see. Thankfully so in some cases.

[/I think she wants to know what you and I really are/] Madromas said in Makes mind, Makes stayed silent, the Ancilla was quite comfortable inside the Snow Leopard, a little chip at the back of the neck, hidden by her hair, and fur. [/Best I can make is that the technology here is vastly inferior, unlike anything I have ever come across, none of it is naturally occuring formations either. For a very long moment the tall, black haired, black garbed woman regarded the machinery, technology older then herself, hell older then Madromas itself. And this woman had somehow got it running. Even translating into their langauge, some of the control consol names. Quite strange. Finally she said, "Not sure how be of help. Said previous, unable to access anything." Man if only these humans knew Siamese or Fijitiese, then things were to be far easier.

Makes noticed a hologram floating against the wall. Ah, now those she could handle. Holograms were a common sight in the Fijitia worlds and colonies. Holograms like the one on the wall. She could easily use them, access their controls, heck hologram locks were her favorite. At least until she learned how to fly. 'Madromas; can we use that one ?' Makes mentally asked. She got a mental nod. Moving to it the tall woman seemed to think a moment before pressing a control of some form.

Fee settled back down, and indicated a chair for the woman. She was admittedly a little afraid, though she thought that "unsettled" might be a better term.

Facinated. In what way. Fee considered for a moment. Since social graces were something she lacked, she didn't think about her words, more or less the vocabulary, and to control her accent to make herself better understood.

Never met a talking cat before is all...especially a large one. I've always fancied cats-me da has one in Boston, so it's interesting that I wound up with a dog. She shrugged, and turned around to her machine, pressing a few buttons. She was meant to be opening a few ports for Makes to connect to-if she were anything like Aear, and Fee understood her to be so, she would connect auto-anotmically.

Makes spoke.

Not sure how be of help. Said previous, unable to access anything. Fee nodded.

It's alright. Tell me how to help you. What can I do from me end to make it easier to navigate our world? I will do what I can, but I can't make promises...I have some ports open. Do you have an ancillary like Aear Charter? She was GOOD, but she wasn't a genius. Well, ok, she kind of was, but Makes didn't care most likely.

Fee watched, a little worried, as Makes stood very still for several moments. Then, the woman raised her finger towards someting that Fee couldn't pinpoint. She just looked.

"Hologram" Came the reply, two seconds later and the hologam appeared just on the wall, like a painting of some form. Yet Makes easily manipulated the controls of the thing as if it were a computer. She knows what I am, do I drop the face and go au naturel or what ?

[/Keep it going, I can interface with the hologram on the wall. Its connected with the control system the human activated/]Makes moved her left hand over something on the hologram. [/Connection complete, wireless interface complete. I'm in/] A heartbeat later the hologram disappeared and Makes turned back to the controls, and Fee.

"You confuse me. How know truth of being." As she spoke Makes pointed at herself, as if asking how Fee knew she was actually a cat. Of course, just by asking a question Makes could easily turn the tables on the truth. Asking what the truth was, and then asking how it could be true or why is it true. Or even if it were true to begin with. Fun times.

Of course that got her into more trouble then she liked, most days

Hologram Fee sighed. Those bloody things would be the death of her yet. She wasn't able to control them with any Tau'ri technology, and that fact frustrated her. She didn't know if they were friendly or not, if they would infect her machines or not. She watched as Makes moved her left hand, and then the shiny, tiny wobbly light disappeared. Fee shook her head.

Makes turned around, and spoke to her.

You confuse me. How know truth of being Fee eyeballed her. How to tell Makes about some of the conversations that she and Aear had had? It seemed to Fee like he'd told her some things in confidence, and she didn't want to betray her new friend. But she decided to be a little vague while still being truthful.

I had a discussion with Aear about his origins. You and your kind came up. All I know is that your...species were the precursors to Aear's. Fee considered something else for a moment, turned, and clicked a key.

Did that hologram link you to my system?

"Wirelessly yes." Makes replied with a simple nod. She'd have taken it off the wall and use it like a touch screen computer, like back at home, but this one was more of a thermostat and security control system. color=magenta]Madromas cannot interface with systems here, through holograms can wirelessly connect[/color]" It was clear, the human langauge was hard for her to say, heck if she were talking in Fijitian it was far easier, though Madromas was working on the translation software.

Makes listened as Fee spoke about Aear and his origins. For a long moment she said nothing. Finally speaking up she said "Meowtian are lower race. Unlike own, we rely on Ancilla, form of AI." As she spoke she thought it best to show a full hologram of Madromas though small and floating from her hand. So she did, she held out her hand and a pale blue image of Madromas, no taller than nine or ten inches floated from her palm. "This Madromas, Ancilla" She said, as if formerly introducing Fee to the AI possessed by the tall dark haired woman.

Madromas then took that moment to speak, her words forming on Fees screen as well. //Greetings human. As stated, I am Madromas, 7th Generation Ancilla. You have met the Meowtians ? Most interesting. Their technology not yet on par with our own. yet, inqusitive by nature. Most interesting the Ancilla said.

Wirelessly yes.... Fee nodded, but made a mental note to watch for any signs of virus. Not that she didn't trust Makes, but she could never be sure. Fee felt stiff and formal around the woman, likely due to her size. Fee was TINY, almost a bug, next to the taller cat woman.

Madromas cannot interface with systems here, through holograms can wirelessly connect Fee nodded again. She needed a new bit.

Madromas is your AI?! Like how Aear has the ancillary with his arm...bloody pain that thing. Fee was constantly fighting the machine and Aear's own fecklessness.

Makes addressed her question about Aear.

Are Tau'ri or whatever we're called..are we lower race? I rely on AI...it's the only thing in the world that won't hurt you. Fee lowered her gaze. She'd said too much...it was not Makes' concern whether or not Fee felt alone and inferior here. Nor did she likely care about the scared shell of a woman before her. SHe noticed as Makes held out her hand, and a pale blue image flickered in front of her.

This Madromas, Ancilla Fee nodded once.

Hello. It was weird, perhaps, saying hello to an AI.

Just then, the flickering blue light began to "speak" or what Fee assumed passed for speech.

Greetings human. As stated, I am Madromas, 7th Generation Ancilla. You have met the Meowtians ? Most interesting. Their technology not yet on par with our own. yet, inqusitive by nature. Most interesting Fee shrugged.

Feckless, more like it. 7th generation?! I am first generation American on my planet. Fee replied, then blushed crimson when she realized how dumb that sounded. Oh, well.

Is there something I can do to make my sytem more understandable for you? For this, I've used binary code....

If Madromas was to notice the stupidity of the situation that Fee just found herself in by how she spoke, the Ancilla paid little, if any, heed to it. Seeming to forge ahead she said as she tilted her head at how Fee spoke of her being an AI of some form. //You may refer to me as such. Madromas then turned towards the screen. //I am wirelessly connected to your system at this time. For a lower race, your kind have come quite far in technology. Your system medium level with a rudimentary AI, Most interesting design. Did you construct it yourself ?

Makes smiled behind her hologram desguise, This was easier then expected, the human was far more interested in Madromas then the Snow Leopard herself, this could be useful. Makes however wondered just where these humans had come from. Calling themselves Tauri whateverthehell it meant. Humans core planet, now in the core of Swarm Space, was Erde-Tyrene. So for the moment, she let Madromas do the 'talking'

Fee listened carefully, not sure yet how to assess the situation.

Ok. Do with it as you need. She would run a virus scan later, and maybe see if she couldn't figure out some of Madromas' operating system. She went on, answering the machine's question. Not totally on my own, no. I had a bit of help. There were three people on her team when she'd written the updated codes for the Stargate program, but they were both Military and had been reassinged. Myself and two other guys I used to work with wrote it. I AM rather proud of it, though. It's all different sorts of code-harder to infiltrate that way. A little binary, a little HTML, some Linux, all sort of fun bits. Fee nodded a little, wondering if any of that made sense. She looked up at Makes. Were her eyes glazed over yet?

I hope your...Madroma...can understand me. Does she do well with accents?

Wise woman you are...Fee got a sad look on her face just then. How true was that. There were times in Fee's life that she'd needed a friend, or just someone to listen, and it had come just too late.

Yes, that's to avoid it being stolen or changed. I don't want it to end up in the wrong hands. She had had bad dreams about it being hacked into whilst she was coding it.

English is one of the most difficult languages to learn, yes. I should've coded the whole mess in Gaelic, but then no one would be able to read it. Gaelic is the language of the place on Earth I come from. Fiona tried her best to explain.
