Weapons of the Vedas Expedition
Although the Expedition used the Stargate for its first deployment of personnel and equipment, power requirements are such that this is a one off. As such the Expedition had to take enough equipment and ordinance to last until the first resupply trip, slated for three months from the initial trip through the gate. As such a limit was imposed on the amount of weapons taken. The following is a list of the weapon stocks carried by the Vedas Expedition .
Knife
M9 Bayonet – (standard issue) - The M9 Bayonet is a multi-purpose knife and bayonet officially adopted by the United States Armed Forces, as such is the standard issue for the Expedition.
Handguns
M9 – (standard issue) – A tough, reliable and durable weapon, issued to all civilian and military personnel who step through the gate and the preferred weapon for non-combat missions.
Sub-machineguns
P90 – (standard issue) Compact, lightweight, ergonomically shaped, with an unusual magazine loading it’s only real handling issue. This weapon is issued to military and civilian alike when stepping though the gate. It’s 50 round magazine and considerable stopping power have seen many Homeworld personnel though some tight spots and lived to return though the gate and tell the tale.
Assault Rifles & Sniper Rifles
The multi-national nature of the expedition meant that no standard battle rifle was adopted, in view of space and carrying issues personnel from participating nations were allowed only the standard issue rifle of their respective nation. For instance
US: M16 or M4
UK: SA80
Russia: AK-74
Australia: F88 Variation
Czech: CZ 805
Ect. Ect.
Snipers and designated marksmen weapons are left up to the choice of their operator, although they are only individual selections of the Expeditions trained snipers and designed marksmen.
Support Weapons
M249 - commonly known as a SAW, which stand for Squad Assault Weapon. A light machine gun designed to give a large volume of fire in as compact a package as possable. Still a weight weapon, this is generaly deployed on mission that will involve a fire fight at some point, to give the team a bit of extra fire power and cover them as nessasary. This to is carried by a trained operator.
M240 - A belt-fed gas-operated heavy weapon, can be fired from a bipod, or using the sling, from the hip. This weapon is only deployed in the hands of a trained and preferably experienced operator. A mission where this is carried will almost certainly involve heavy combat.
