It was becoming more and more the case that you could cut the tension in the briefing room with a knife, and that worried Koren; if the members of the expedition were at each others throats so much now, what would it be like when the bullets started flying?

And the more Koren watched his CO's ask questions and field them, the more Koren became wary of them. These men, while clearly veterans, had no idea what lie through that gate, and their levity of some of the more serious aspects of the Stargate program took Koren aback a bit. But Koren did his best to suspend his judgement; they would be tested by the reality of gate travel, and if they didn't live up to what the SGC was putting them up to...well, Koren guessed he wouldn't live to complain about it. But if Koren had anything to say about it, he was coming home this time. Koren didn't want Katie to be left completely alone in this world; not now that she'd asked him to come home after this assignment.

Koren knew his personal motivation was strong, but Koren was still a little clueless on what the end goal of this mission was or why it needed to bring in a dozen new members to the SG program, chief among them a K-9 unit, a NASA specialist, ANOTHER archeologist and a Coast Guard Admiral and his Captain family relation. None of it added up. There was something the SGC wasn't telling them, and Koren didn't like being left in the dark, especially when good men's necks were on the line. And that was the other thing; if this was a simple asses and retrieval mission, why did they pull so many soldiers from Delta, an off-world, long distance colony team?

Koren had a feeling it was going to be an extended stay on the other side of the gate, and if that were the case, he had some extra prep he needed to do.

"Sirs," Koren said, addressing the room, "If there's nothing else..." implying that he was hoping to be dismissed to go prep for the mission.

    The conversation went back around the room, with other members of the group offering their own explanations of the IOA. Quite a few people around the table, Henry included, had only been with the SGC for the shortest of times and were still trying to get their heads around what this expedition would entail. Honestly, Doctor Pratt still wasn't convinced that he'd fully come to terms with the notion that he'd be on the other side of the known universe by this time tomorrow.

    A question was raised by one of the military officers present, to which Henry believed he could offer his expertise. "What can you tell about these so called gods, is there anything in are history that we know about the weapons they had and do we know why they left?" the woman asked, her accent identifying her as originating from an Eastern Bloc nation.

    "Well, I, errr... I'm not sure we can say a great deal at this point," Henry stammered in reply. "The Stargate coordinates - they're called coordinates right? - were pieced together from broken pottery scattered among a number of dig sites in India."

    From his reading of Daniel Jackson's reports, Henry had come to understand that aliens from far off worlds had lived on Earth during early human civilians, acting in the roles of deities or mythical beings. At the moment, he was operating off the same assumption.

    "My understanding is that there have been Goa'uld who have taken up the mythology of the Indian sub-continent before, such as Kali, but as the Goa'uld are limited to this galaxy, and the address is for another galaxy, it's likely this could be another species. They might have operated alongside the Goa'uld, in opposition to them, or say before or after the Goa'uld were on Earth."

    That was about all he could say at the moment; he had, after all, only had a few days to try to gain an understanding of the entire Stargate program.

    "As for weapons, no idea. Deities are usually imbued with magical powers and strengths, but, there's nothing definitive that I know of."

Marah had been sitting in the room quietly listening to the conversations flying around the room and taking in the new faces. The appearance of the new Doctor surprised her a bit, but from her experience a man of his field would become a valuable asset to have on board. The three other military personnel she knew would be fine with this information having dealt with it already, she eyed Kelly and Maccafferty. Those two will be the ones who will be in shock she thought as she stared at the NASA woman a bit more. Marah felt a small bit of guilt rise in her, maybe I should of spoken to her earlier she thought in her head as she then turned back to the current talk about the false gods they maybe facing. "Sir's what equipment will we have available to us initially. Is there a DSC or even a BC assigned to the expedition with any 302 support or will it just be another Atlantis expedition of flying into the unknown and set up a FOB" Marah questioned Davis. Marah looked at Fiala after hearing Pratts answer "I think we should prepare for the worst and hope for the best" she said the woman.

Liam glanced over when Marah said that.  She's my CO?.....not that  there is anything wrong with that  he said to himself as he looked back to the people running the meeting as he stood there.  Liam listened to her as she made that comment about being prepared for the worst.  "No argument here ma'am" he said, speaking up for the first time in this meeting.  There was honesty in his voice as he said that to her, along with respect.  Liam was never one to disrespect anyone, even if he disagreed with them.  At the same time, he hoped that his comment wasn't taken the wrong way or got him in trouble.

Fiona nodded as Marah entered. More military people. Lovely. 

She addressed the Oxfords. 

Sir's what equipment will we have available to us initially? Fee was ready to interject. She passed the woman one of the super computers and then notated. "Scary brunette-#3". Later, she crossed it out and put the woman's proper name. She'd have to have a small briefing-or send an email-on how to use the machines. 

Fee tuned out again. She wasn't big on the miitary jargon, and she kind of didn't care. 

The Stargate coordinates - they're called coordinates right? - were pieced together from broken pottery scattered among a number of dig sites in India. Here, Fiona's own inner geek was realeased. Finally, something she knew things about. She cleared her throat, and spoke, her accent thick with the worry of feeling stupid. Fiona had done some papers on that dig that Dr. Pratt had mentioned. 

Yes, co-ordinates. And I read all of the papers on that. Daniel Jackson pioneered the research. Then some of his protgees continued it. They found that a lot of what we consider to be the 7 Wonders are actually part of the original Gate, and that aliens buried the stargate below Earth's surface, mostly in Mesopotamia. Sounded like a lot of bollocking, really...I wrote a paper for a class I took refuting it. I have that research, too, if anyone is interested...I got an A, but it sounds like maybe Jackson was right... Her A was ill-gotten. She didn't know how to process that. She fell silent once more, but was grateful when Koren suggested they wrap it up, She, for one, could use a drink.

After voicing his point of view Matt casually flipped the folder, as Law spoke, as a frown drew on his brows, coming the page about the DSC and BC, he was surprised, shocked and understandably impressed. "Those are big guns," he commended as he leaned over the table, "What more?" as his eyes landed on Koren. And he realised that he needed to get his entire head around this whole program being real - super fast.

He listened to the tale of Doctor Pratt, "So either thees Gou'ald were pretending to play these guys or we are looking at two different species altogether?" he asked. "Correct?" Matt looked around the room.

Hope for the best, prepare for worst! Magical powers, Bobby's head reeled, oh he forgot the DSC and BC that came along with this package. "So the information from the sites doesn't give us anything of value other that address as Davis calls it- pre see?" Interesting. They were doomed.

Paul watched and listened to the chatter. He admitted the briefing was a little off par, but at least the discussion was where he hoped it would go. Picking up the small control, and moved to dim the lights and open the projector as he answer Law's question, but hadn't yet darkened the room, but waited for the moment to be right, since the conversation was still flowing, "USS Shiva is almost completed, USS Vishu to be completed in coming months. What you need till the Battlecruise arrives is on standby. Commanding Officer of USS Shiva is Lt Colonel Andrew Erickson Of US Army. So far we expect it to be like Atlantis"

Perking Bobby looked at Davis as the man spoke, "Isn't Atlantis meant to be a myth?" he was sure he wasn't hearing this right.

"Atlantis real as this program." Paul replied, leaning on the wall, "Maybe one of these days, everyone can take the tour of the city."

Looking at Telion, "Lieutenant, see me after the briefing, I'll fill you in about your assignment till USS Shiva arrives," Paul added, "Admiral, I like you to stay back also."

[Henry Pratt]

    A lot of words and acronyms were thrown around the room - DSC, BC, 302, FOB - none of which Henry knew the meaning of. It seemed that Doctor Pratt still had a lot of reading to do. He made a note in the corner of a page in his briefing folder to follow them out and find out what they stood for. One thing the archaeologist could not stand was not knowing things. Knowledge was power. And being a new kid on the block didn't help either; he was the kind of person who liked to always have an answer or anecdote up his sleeve.

    One of the few other civilians in the room, a Doctor by the name of Fiona Maccafferty he believed, elaborated on his comments regarding Stargate coordinates, also quoting Daniel Jackson. "That sounds about right... right?" Henry added. He stilled didn't have a complete understanding of how the Stargate worked, but if his explanation was confirmed by another scientist then he must be on the right track.

    Admiral Oxford and Colonel Davis shared some words, and asked a few members to hang back to talk over some final military matters. Taking that as a sign that the meeting was drawing to an end, Henry began to close and pack up his briefing folders, waiting to be formally dismissed.

Calmara listened with intersted as a back and forth started between expedition members with the seasoned filling in the blanks for the 'newbies' and those newbies starting to work with each other. After a bit of an edggy start this was good to see, a question or two about the nature of any threat caught his attention and the origins of the inhabitants of the galaxy they were headed to, he waided in at this point. "The information we have indicates any record of the Vedas galaxy or the coordinates we are using pre-date the know Gou'ald presance on earth. That information is in section three of your packets, you can read at your leisure." He paused for a moment or two and then went on to. "As for weapons we can extrapolate from the myths, but honestly we don't know. Part of the point of the expedition is to get these answers."

He threw a glance at Col. Davis after a short pause, he was gussing Davis needed the room after his last request of Lt. Telion and Admr Oxford. "I could do with a leg stretch and a coffee. But if any further questions occur to anyone feel free to come find me. I'll be behind a stack of paperwork." That said Calmara slipped a file back into the box as he stood, before tucking his new tech toy under his arm. Time to get beter acquainted with 'Asimov'.

As the rest of the expedition headed out the room, Koren was left with Admiral Oxford and Colonel Davis. Koren knew he should speak with great respect to these men, but Koren had become concerned at Calmara's last comment and voiced his concern as soon as the door was closed.

"So," Koren said, folding his arms and facing Col. Davis, hist jaw set, a frustrated look on his face, "A really advanced piece of technology that's been seemingly untouched for thousands of years, and we're just supposed to jump through the gate and secure it. This smells a lot like a trap, sir."

Koren didn't care if Davis thought that was rude or disrespectful to his intel or command; as one of the veterans on the expedition, Koren felt it was his responsibility to make sure the expedition was in trouble as soon as they walked in the front door. And Koren had a feeling that, if the Admiral could wrap his head around everything he'd just seen, he'd agree.

Koren tapped his finger restlessly against his arm as he waited for an answer.

Suddenly, a voice spoke up from the briefing table, "Please excuse me, gentlemen." It was the redhead...from NASA Koren had seen on the roster. Fiona Maccafferty, was it? " 'Tis time for me to phone into NASA HQ; I am meant to check in every so often about my part in the mission. I should make that call now. HQ probably has a ton of busy work for me to complete before launch...but later, if anyone is interested, I plan to turn up at Murphy's Pub, on Beltway and 44th." With the speed of a woman possessed, With the speed of a woman possessed, she gathered up her box, tote, and sweater, and left the room.

Why not? Koren thought, "I'll be there!" Koren called after her, then he turned back to his two superiors

Fee was the last holdout. She didn't quite get the social cues that other people did about leaving. So she was rooted to her spot, head down, trying not to listen to Lt. Telion as he questioned the men.

She agreed, but couldn't bring herself to nod, smile, or do anything but stare at the blue and yellow legal pad in front of her. Fiona hated confrontation. And she hated it more when she was the last one left. She was always late to catch on to things. 

Her quick mind thought of a story, fast. She raised her arm a bit, and glanced at her watch. Just enough time to report into NASA and then have an early dinner before she settled into her dorm/barracks room for a few rounds of WOW. She cleared her throat, and adjusted her glasses, standing carefully.

Fiala gave a smile as the answer to her question was final answered, in the end that was all she realy cared about was what to expect of the enemy and how dangers they were . In the end that was why she was here, to protect the egIg heads and let them get to work with out harm . With all the talk about the IOA out of the way she finely listened as the briefing finely got on it's way .

Fiala took in all that Marah had to say in, she understood were she was coming from after all she was air force and all Fiala could do was shake her head in disagreement to Marahs comment . She had good fate in Marah military ability but on this hand agreed with more of an ground deployment and that was the move she was next to an hundred percent sure that the team were going to deploy. The aim in her view was to keep off the radar as much as possible till the big gun arrived and not have 302 in orbit which could alert passing ships to there location . When they had the USS Shiva in orbit, then the good times could roll, with all hope this mission would be a bore and in that case it was't Marah was right about been prepared for the worst .

It was't long before the briefing came to an end and slowly one by one each of them began to leave Fiala had her own prep to do for her mission and had to check in with supplies . Fiala gave her salute and turned to make a quick stop to her quarters .

Marah was keeping track of the other conversations as well as her own and when her answer came she slowly sighed and unconsciously touched her right thigh. She remembered how much fun that was on Atlantis.

"USS Shiva is almost completed, USS Vishu to be completed in coming months. What you need till the Battlecruise arrives is on standby. Commanding Officer of USS Shiva is Lt Colonel Andrew Erickson Of US Army. So far we expect it to be like Atlantis"

Marah nodded with a slight grimness to her attitude now, she took the tablet from Fiona and gave a half hearted smile before regaining herself in the moment and returned to the conversation as Liam spoke,

"No argument here ma'am"

She smiled at the man, "Thank you Sergeant Kelly" she spoke knowing what one possible outcome could be. She had survived the siege of atlantis but had watched half of her squad, friends and a lover, drained of life by the wraith. She had seen much more too that only a hand full of the people in this room had seen let alone understand. But she put that out of her mind and resumed her perky yet intelligent attitude she had had for most of the day.

Perking Bobby looked at Davis as the man spoke, "Isn't Atlantis meant to be a myth?" he was sure he wasn't hearing this right.

"Atlantis real as this program." Paul replied, leaning on the wall, "Maybe one of these days, everyone can take the tour of the city."

"A lovely city actually. Remind me to tell you about it later" she said with a bit of distaste for the city. And with that the briefing had been closed. Marah smiled a weak smile as she saluted and walked out the now opened door, Pooja would love this she thought to herself. Indian Gods she continued this line of thought as she walked slowly with no propose down the corridor.

"You're welcome ma'am" Liam said to her as he stood there, listing to the others after he said that to his CO.  He listened closely to what she said to the group, the tone in her voice told him that she had been through the gate before and knew what she was talking about.  Better not make her mad  he said to himself as he stood there with the rest of the group.  At the same time, he woundered how the rest of his team would react to Shadow.

Bobby was still hung on the fact that Atlantis was real; and a lovely city? Now what didn't he believe that. There was more to it than her tone was telling. Maybe Atlantis wasn't what people thought it might be. Noting the breifing was over, he listened as Davis requested Matt to stay back. Nodded to the man then gaze at the other Oxford, Bobby followed out the crowd, all while loosening the noose on his neck called the tie. He had go rid of his jacket long ago that it now hung on his arm.

Reaching the end of the corridor, he blinked at which way he had come from or which way he had to go. Refreshing his memory, he retraced his steps, catching up with the group, he felt a little odd one out, since he was their CO or rather the XO of the little expedition.

Well he didn't bite...mostly. If one stayed on his good side.

Then again seeing was believing.

Paul looked at the two as he shut the door. The less people knew about this the better, turned again to see them, "Your assignment is to be the security detail for the Admiral. Til he gets the hang everything regarding Stargate Program, you are responsible for his safety."

Frowning, he moved his mouth to say something, but decided against it. Since these tow were more aware than he was about what was out there. He already had a bulldog in Bobby. "It would be better if he did for the whole expedition, wherever possible. There are few more rookies with us. That red head who's name escapes me for some reason and Doctor Pratt." he looked at the two, "I can fire a at least." He was trying to avoid the whole thing as much as he could."
