Back on earth once more for reasons that he would generally have avoided in the past, his grudging acceptance of a little more involvement in the administrative aspects of the 302 program had however opened certain other opportunities and made trips back to earth possible without raised to many eyebrows, he couldn't help but smile to himself at this fact. A relationship that he thought would be nearly impossible to maintain was in fact thriving, the regular messages with hidden meanings were exciting for sure, continuing the sense of excitement at following a course that was far from by the book as you could get that had been a draw when this was all new and Calmara was long past worrying if they were understood, as his relationship and his affection for Destiny had grown into something much more, there was a firm sense of care and trust now.
These feeling had grown, and add to that certain outside pressures, James was becoming more and more convinced that he had to make some sort of commitment to the is woman, above and beyond the secret and quiet ones they had made between themselves. A long talk with Destiny was needed and that was perfectly fine with him, he'd made it clear he intended to take a personal day on this trip but had purposefully been noncommittal of which day he wanted for the moment, he would have to confirm by the end of the day that much he knew.
Hauling his pick-up into a left hand turn he was only vaguely certain was the correct one, aware that he'd a short time before having head back to the air base and on a flight to DC. He'd have barely a half hour alone with the most important person to him, not long enough by far, but it was more a lead-in an appetiser before the main, a trailer before the main feature. He knew to well these could be exciting enough on their own.
Storing in a space and then leaving the truck quickly, he crossed the lot to the building that held his apartment, their agreed meeting place and a purely practical choice this time, electing for the stairs he took them two or three at a time and he ascended the floors his expectation seemed to climb as well. He paused before stepping onto his floor composed himself and then crossed the hall to his own door, key turned and then pushed the door open.
A deep grin spread across his face.
