South Wing Laboratories
Vedas Base
It was base exploration. Which should have been safe but between the base almost blowing up, losing his mental filter and squirrel rodent things, Steve didn't consider this the cake walk he might have only a year ago.
He had the door, touching nothing except his weapon as he kept Cooper near him and examined the room. It wasn't like the other lab spaces they'd been cataloging. A circle of seven chairs took up the majority of the room, with a table in the middle that bore what had to be a quarter inch of dust. The back wall, opposite the door bore what seemed to be just one computer, silent and obviously off. The table had a fixture on it, maybe a very intricate lamp about two feet high with curling projections of off-white metal decoration. And he wasn't going to touch it, nope. He'd already had two different pieces of 10,000 year old equipment burn out when he'd tried turning them on today.
Sure they'd all had that run in with the virus trying to re-write DNA, but he was the only one who'd been ATA before that incident and despite the docs saying nothing about his DNA had changed after Huntley's cure, Steve thought differently. Nothing he could prove as he examined the table and chairs. "Looks like a Devas hookah circle to me. Or a book club round table."
He went to that one computer, studying the Hindi characters on the keys. Okay, yeah, he wanted to see if the computer would boot up, but not until they had a translation. He opened a side panel to examine the internal crystals, looking for any that would overload and shatter when powered on but both the more Ancient crystals and the physical wires looked to be intact. He closed the panel and got back up off his knees. "I think this one is undamaged. It shouldn't fry when it boots anyway."
