And I will stand for my dream if I can,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
Personality:
Rachana is an extremely competitive person in her field, very hands on she thrives off the sense of achievement she gets by solving ever more complicated problems. The harder the better and through her life she has always put solving those problems first, even when they may not actually be that important. Dealing with daily life she sees tasks as problems that need to be solved and this can make her seem rather rude and abrupt to those around her. Being social is something prefuntury to help others work more efficiently in most cases so she can come off as very cold and sometimes even cruel given she has little problem with speaking her mind. That isn’t to say she doesn’t like spending time with people, however she would want that time to be spent doing something rather than just chatting.
And I must follow on the road that lies ahead,
I won't let my heart control my head,
I won't let my heart control my head,
Likes:
Mental and Engineering Challenges, Rachana gains most of her pleasure from conquering problems and nothing makes her happier than looking back on a job well done. The harder and the more that she was the only one who could solve it the better.
Arguments, ideas develop from problems and problems sometimes need a push. Mixed in with the fact that in her experience Rachana is right nine times out of ten she likes to play devils advocate or even her own advocate to get into a verbal sparing match.
Chocolate Cheesecake, a chemical and culinary marvel that is one of the few food items she savours.
Ego Stroking, for most humans Rachana can be considered highly intelligent however she now keeps company with the best of the best. Used to being a big fish in a small pond she now more than ever likes to be told how impressive she is, or at the very least be thanked for what she has done.
Dislikes:
People that don't understand what she is taking about or that trivialise it
Being proven wrong, tending to take it personally when her self image is rocked.
Being in Space, when a single sheet of metal is all that protects you from something that seems to be designed to exterminate all life, it is not safe.
Lazy people, considering Rachana considers anyone not doing something she considers useful for most of their waking hours lazy she can appear to have distain for almost everyone at points.
Aims:
To either be realised at one of the planets greatest minds or to have her ego reach critical mass and form a new planetoid. When it really comes down to it however she is really only looking for new problems to solve and challenge her.
Fears: The cold vacuum of space, failure, getting shot and rooms without windows.
Skills:
An electrical savant and general boffin Rachana relishes using her intellect and knowhow to solve problems and is excellent at it. This may be because she shys away from challenges she considers impossible and sticks to ones she understands at least somewhat.
Mathematical, a lifetime of complex equations means she is a dab hand at solving them on the fly.
Relentless, Once Rachana starts something she will complete it, at all costs.
Habits:
Disassembly, The best way to find out how something works is to take it apart, very carefully. Rachana's first instinct when discovering a new device is to take it completely apart where possible and see what each bit actually does. This takes up a lot of her time and can lead to broken objects but means she tends to know how to fix a lot of things as well.
Pebbles, ever since she was a child Rachana has set herself the task of finding the perfect sphere of nature. In short she has a small collection of rounded stones on a shelf in her quarters and will pick up pebbles close to her criteria but rarely actively look for them.
Emotive, Rachana talks with her hands, the more agitated she gets the bigger the motions, when angry prone to wind milling.
Tilt, frequently looks at people with her head tilted to one side.

History:
The daughter of an electrician Naveen and his wife Rishmei, Rachana has three older brothers and grew up just outside Chennai in Southern India. They were somewhat well off and all of their children attended school in the city. While her older brothers did not do poorly Rachana quickly started to outshine them. By the age of twelve she was fluent in Tamil, Hindi and English and had skipped two school grades. While she would often have to help her mother with managing the household she would much rather be with her brothers and father. Most of his work was fixing broken appliances and their house was full of parts, compared to school work it was a challenge to fix things and after years of telling her not to get involved her parents gave up and allowed her to work.
It was with this same persistence that she managed to take part in a correspondence course at Indian Institute of Technology Madras in the field of Electrical Engineering. Finding scholarship money for herself she finished just before completing high school and was made an unconditional offer for further study. Still in Chennai she began to study Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in preparation for a Phd that followed when she was twenty four along with a job offer to work for the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation on its missile and anti satellite projects which was the biggest challenge she could see.
Her answer was the octagon plate meld nozzle with control gimbals. Launched from near orbit the missile was very maneuverable and while complex it was a very efficient weapon. While lacking in control systems or strong enough warhead it could follow an evasion pattern that gave it even odds of evading most predicted CIWS while in space. This mixed with the fact she was rapidly becoming more trusted within the government meant they were eager to promote her skills to their allies. Having missed out entirely on the Stargate program, India wanted to make its mark.
So it made the overtures and the fact it was paying for part of the project to be brought on board. At first Rachana considered it all a very bad joke but it didn't take too long to become clear. It was real, that she had a lot to learn and that she had, outdone them. They wanted her engine for enemies that mankind didn't publically know about, another stop on the ego train. It didn't last too long, she shared her engine, it was adapted to the new technology, improved and the more other people got involved the more bored she became with the project. Looking for something new she jumped at the chance to work on the now returned to Earth Atlantis, reverse engineering the electrical systems to a level that could be produced on Earth. As a person that never turned down a challenge it was something she threw herself into completely and within the year could be considered a world expert, her team able to produce a wildly expensive fasimily of a crystal circuit that could never be mass produced or even produced in useful numbers. An inferior version could be grown however, while prone to failure and with a life measured in hours rather than millennium a generic stopgap could be developed. Having gotten that far though, Rachana became bored with the idea and was more than happy to hand it over to someone else. Other projects came and went but after several years of work on Earth she was asked by her government to take part in a new project, one that would take her a long way from home.

Role Play Sample:
"You misunderstand the fundamental principle of the technology, it is not like some copper wire. It is far more than that," Even though she was only talking into a computer camera her hands were moving with each word, "Even your best attempts have required additional material to make the connections and process the information, we can do so much better than that."
"The request you have submitted is more than the entire budget for all extraplanetary research," A much older voice replied from the computer screen, "It is impossible."
Rachana cut him off, "It is not impossible, with enough pressure and a more accurate laser array we can finally unlock the true strength that the Ancients had. The cost is insignificant compared to the great leap forwards that it would give us." A hand pulled through her hair, curled locks slipping over her lab coated shoulders. "Great work costs, we would change the world as we know it with this technology."
"Not without funding," The voice was firmer now, "The project is on ice for now, we will develop the mass produced model for now. I'm sorry Doctor Roshanara but until we can develop a production system that is more attainable that is all." The man leaned in towards the camera before disappearing.
Rachana clenched her fists and left the room, kicking the door open as she went. The outburst made her feel a little better before sinking into a chair against he wall.
"He said no," A voice in heavily accented English called to her, "Just as I said."
Rachana blew out her cheeks and glowered, "I've secured more funding for the mass production tests than you thought we could have," Thrusting an accusatory finger. Of course she knew it was not going to happen, she wasn't mad. That didn't mean the woman didn't want it to though, didn't dream of what might be. The theatrics of it all though, she had still gained something from it. That didn't make defeat taste better though, it was abrupt but she found she didn't care for this project any more. Now that she would likely never see what it could really do, that she was limited, she didn't care to do half a job.
