History: Atharv was born into a peaceful life on a world at the very edge of Asuran controlled territory. Even though they were technically under the rule of their ‘gods’, the back water world offered little strategic importance and was rarely visited. A small garrison in the capital city which taxed imports and exports was the only interaction the people of the world had day-to-day.
As a young man Atharv excelled at his schooling, and was accepted into one of the better higher education to study politics. It was a the perfect fit - he was known growing up for his keen sense of bargaining, his patience dealing with others, and his ability to sway others to agreeing with him. Involving himself in student politics, and having come to the attention of local civic leaders who saw him as a potential future leader, Atharv believed his life to be perfect.
One evening, without warning, the skies filled with Asuran warships. Troops flooded the streets, rounding up all men of military service age, and dragged them kicking and screaming to recruitment compounds. For the first time in as long as the elders could remember, the planet was again under full Asuran occupation.
While he initially resisted his conscription, Atharv was smart enough to know that fight head-on was futile. While he despised his forced military service, he kept his head down and tried to avoid attention while serving as a grunt. During this time he saw and did things which still haunt him to this day. Eventually his leadership potential was spotted by his superiors, and Atharv was sent off to officer training.
As much as he hated himself for taking a leading role in the military he hated so much, Atharv found that as an officer he could subtly manipulate orders and move troops to ensure that innocent locals on the worlds he invaded were as safe as could be. It was only through his masterful manipulation and way with words that he managed to stay one head of his supervisors. Still, it wasn’t long before they began to suspect his motives. Staying one step ahead, Atharv recently requested transfer to the logistics command, unaware that doing so would bring him into contact with Vedas Expedition, a powerful ally in his fight against the Asurans.

Role Play Sample:
From the watch tower high above the Asuran warship depot, a lone officer studied the workflow of those working away on the machines of war, analysing their progress as his role required. Just like any other officer in the Asuran logistic corps would be trying to find a way to make things work better, the supervisor was reprioritising men, changing supply orders, and signing off on progress reports. This particular officer however, was doing these things to create an unexpected outcome - he was trying to slow down production of the cruisers.
It was worrying how easy it was to be a traitor in his current role. By pulling an experienced work crew off a project they'd almost finished and bringing in a fresh crew straight out of boot camp, he increased the chances of an engineering error by 41%. Not a bad result for a simple roster change. Sometimes the errors were simple - a poor weld, an overlooked safety rail - and were easily fixed at a later date. But sometimes the hastily rotated crew missed something big, like installing a heat exchange that was not powerful enough for the task (Atharv had amended the order for the part so the wrong one arrived), which put the cruiser a mouth behind schedule. Some would argue that they were minor hurdles, but one after the other they added up, slowing the resupply of the Asuran war effort in this sector considerably.
A second officer joined Atharv in the control tower - his fool of a supervisor. He was easy enough to control - his vanity was an easy instrument for Atharv to play, allowing him more freedom than he should have been granted. His previous boss hadn't been so easy, leaving Atharv not choice but to remove him - the man's love of illicit drugs had been his downfall. After providing him with his vice through a third party, Atharv had placed an anonymous tip-off to the garrison commander. He'd felt pity for the whole of ten seconds before he'd moved on.
"How we looking down there today?" the supervisor asked, unaware of his subordinates ongoing efforts to undermine all his hard work. "Some minor setbacks but nothing we can overcome by the grace of Tarakasur," he replied, the name of the false-god bitter in his mouth. He would have to redouble his efforts - this was taking too long.
