Symbol of my faith in who I am,
Personality: He's very much a lighthearted guy as well an introvert. He's not exactly the type to instantly introduce himself to someone new but if said person came up to him and put enough effort into it, he would eventually open up to them. It might take him awhile to get to the point where he truly sees someone as a friend (barring extreme circumstances) but once he gets to that point, he's a deeply loyal friend. It can also be said that Kelly is a goofball, in fact for a long time he was thought he would go on to be a comedian on SNL. And he very well might have, but his love of sci-fi (Star Trek in particular) lead him to take a different career path. Kelly also has a hidden braveness to him, he doesn't see it in himself and thinks of himself as a coward to a certain extent. But when put into a tense situation he will usually find a way to pull through and not abandon anyone he's with.
I won't let my heart control my head,
Likes: Exploring, Sci-fi, Comedy, Puzzles and board games, that feeling you get when you figure something out
Dislikes: Brutality/Cruelty, Feeling helpless, Loud noises, Guns (This one is complicated)
Aims: Before he learned of the Stargate his goal was to find something world changing while on a archeological dig.
Fears: Heights
Skills: Speaking languages (There's only three that he's truly fluent in), Copying accents, Quick learner.
Habits: He'll mutter under his breath when lost in thought. A tendency to get lost in thought. When frustrated he'll hiss like a Klingon. A tendency to yell in Klingon when fighting with a computer.
I keep the memory of you and me inside
Marital Status: Single
Love Interest: Cathleen Newell
Offspring: None
Parent: Christopher Bertrand (father) and Megan Bertrand (Mother)

Fulfil your destiny,
Is there within the child,
History: The oldest of two children, Kelly Bertrand was born in Houston, Texas, though he spent most his childhood living on his father's ranch becoming used to the country and being surrounded by trees, as opposed to the city. One trait that stuck with him since he was young was his curiosity, if there was something he could learn then he would do his best to learn it. During his teenage years he became known around his high school he became known as the class clown and he thought about pursuing it. He would have gone after that career if it weren't for his sister making a comment on his attempt to learn Klingon and his liking Captain Picard. After finishing high school, he had gone on to eventually get a Master's Degree for Archeology and Linguistics. Though he actually forgets about his Linguistics degree from time to time.
He would have gone on to get his PhD, but he was given an opportunity to get hands on experience at an archeological dig in South America that he couldn't pass up. While his time in South America wasn't exactly thrilling, it convinced him to keep going with this, instead of going back to school. Another significant event that happened on this dig was his meeting Cathleen Newell, an Irish woman that was working as an intern in the local Irish Embassy. They started to hit it off rather quickly, but only as friends as he kept telling himself. But the friendship began to grow over the course of the year they spent in the area. And while they didn't exactly meet often, when they did they had a great time. Their friendship grew to the point that they kept in touch even after they had gone their separate ways. And while they both denied it, they did in fact have feelings for one another.
Throughout his life, Kelly had a dislike for firearms. He wasn't sure what it was about them, but just seeing one made him uncomfortable. Not exactly to the point where he was against them, rather he just didn't want to bother with them. This was quite an irony due to his skill with pistols. Its entirely possible that he would have gone his entire life without ever picking up a gun after leaving home... If it weren't for Cathleen. When he told her he was going to a dig in East Africa, she had convinced him to arm himself so that he wouldn't be defenseless if the worst were to happen. As much as he didn't like the idea, he couldn't bare the thought of causing her worry, so he reluctantly bought himself a pistol. By now he's comfortable with smaller handguns, (Think P99 in size) but still finds himself uncomfortable with anything larger.
Over time he became known for translating text that was found at sites and getting along well with the locals. He would often joke that he could read any language there is, just not speak or write it. Though he always enjoyed the digs he had been on, none of them had ever had the same impact on him as the one he met Cathleen on. With one notable exception. It was on a small dig in New Mexico when some men from the Pentagon had arrived looking for him. It had taken some convincing, but eventually they had brought his curiosity out and he agreed to hear out their offer. This was the dig that introduced him to the Stargate and opened his eyes to the greater mysteries of the Universe. As well as caused the Trekkie to geek out.

Role Play Sample: Swatting at flies and grumbling under his breath in Klingon, Kelly cursed the Brazilian weather. Everyday for the past week he had to remind himself why he had agreed to go on this dig and not go for his PhD. All the while he was working at uncovering some markings that had been found, he wasn't sure what it was they found, but he knew that he was going to figure it out. Sitting with a notebook across his lap he shifted his seat on the small stool... Or at least he was calling it a stool. He again, reminded himself that this was something he loved, sitting in a cramped space while looking at some dusty markings and trying to write them down, all the while his glasses covered in a fine layer of dust.
Letting out a growled hiss, he stood up and started to stretch his legs, he began to leave the ruin and took his glasses off. "I gotta take a break." He muttered, his Texan accent prevalent. He wiped his face, only serving to spread the dirt around. Cleaning his glasses as he made his was over to the food tent in hopes of finding some water. The one thing that kept him going without overt complaint was the fact that he'd be seeing Cathleen today. There was just something about that woman that he couldn't help but look forward to seeing. A small smile came to his face as he thought about her calling him 'Cowboy' based on his drawl. Glancing at his notes he spat out a mouthful of water in excitement as a realization dawned on him. He ran back into the ruin, his head moving close enough to the stone roof that his hat was knocked off and he quickly got back down next to the markings. He had just figured out what it meant! No one else, him! This was it, this was why he had taken up this career!
