Steeping out the the wormhole, Bobby took a look around; hoping for some nice views that were would make him actually enjoy this mission, not that the other were boring, but it was the principle of the thought. Seeing what he was surprised him. Somewhere in the distance he saw smoke, heard a faint sounds of gun fire, and strained his ears for other sound he was hoping to hear. But over fire and fighters striking through the air, drowned other noises.

They had arrived in the middle of the battlefield, or rather the gate was in the middle of the battlefield. Rules of engagement were likely to be different and it would pay to play safe from this point on. He would follow their own rules they knew and he would keep an open mind about this planets or else Travis would breath down his neck like there was no tomorrow. Wasn't it his job to do the 'fire breathing dragon' expressions on everyone. It would be interesting to see him being on the receiving end of it.

His team had been ordered to check out the one the gate address that had come from the database only days back. Little he know that he was leading his team into the death trap from the looks of this. The smokes and planes he could see in the distance were really a promising indication that they were not going to have a smooth ride. He was sure he had heard the order from the Admiral correctly.

He stood alert with his gun aimed at the air while he waited for his team to pass through the wormhole. Darting his eyes around, he felt something not being right, hearing footsteps behind him, "We might tread this carefully," he spoke as he turned to face his team, "We have just stepped into a middle of what appears to be a war zone. Kelly, Shadow, you guys watch our six. Skala, middle and civvies are to be sandwiched between military members. If no questions, we might start trekking."

As he emerged, Blake took a steadying breath on the other side. A first look told him they had come to a relatively advanced world, you could smell the effects of industrialization.

And, of course, it takes a significant level of technology to industrialize warfare. As Captain Oxford ordered their positions, Blake really wanted to grouse about coddling, and was about to open his mouth, but the detonation of a smallish artillery shell nearby made him click his mouth back shut and take a place between Skala and Kelly. "I think we're looking at a early Earth twentieth century level of tech. Planes in warfare is at earliest 1910s. God knows what they're fighting about though."

And weren't there so many choices for what people would fight about?

Seeing there were no questions, he lead the team along the path that was paved from over use during the planet's golden years and peacetime. While he wasn't surprised at the civilizations being at war with each other, he had to wonder what this one was over. From what he was aware of that every war had it's reasons. Not that they had to make sense to a conman man. Even back on Earth they still had wars that make no sense to him as a man. As a officer of the military or Homeland Security, he went where orders took him.

Even if he didn't like them.

Like SGC throwing him into another galaxy over the recommendation of Wizard.

During the walk, he listened to Warrren give the team a little history lesson. "1910's?" he took a good look at the planes as they approached the intersection that divided the path onto two directions. Pausing to take a breather and to assert the situation better, Bobby shaded his eyes after taking of his sunglasses and looked. He couldn't see much beyond the dark smoke and fighters that flew in the air.

If they had indeed traveled back in time -rhetorically- then dealing with these people wasn't going to be easy as he was hoping for. Old age mentality wasn't something he was fond of. He hoped the team played their cards right from the get go. He looked at each member of his team, "Skala, Yagami," he looked at ,is XO, "tap into their frequencies and see what intel you can gather. Kelly, you and Shadow keep an eye and ears out for anyone playing spies. Warren," oh he might get hit on the head for this, but the man was ideal choice, "You will play our diplomat."

Blueberry strolled down the path, as usual she hung to the back of the group engrossed in her tablet. She had the odd peek around here and there but nothing peaked her interest for very long. That was of course till the sound of planes caught her attention and she found her gaze tracing them across the sky. Prop planes, 1910 era maybe. She was barely listening to anyone else, not until her name was called at least.

Eh? She stared blankly at Bobby as he gave her her orders. Yokai. she acknowledged simply before returning to her tablet. Miki. Already on it. My MaDaR scans of the local area suggest this isn't a recent conflict. There is a lot of... Conflict on the air. informed Miki as she and Blue started working on a patch. Blue moved closer to Fiala so she could she what she was up to. Fiala wasn't techy but they were both told to see what they could do.

Liam and Shadow covered the team's six as they moved down the path.  Shadow kept his nose to the ground while Liam had his P90 at the ready as they moved along.  After a while, Liam heard the order for him and Shadow to keep watch.  "On it" he said before giving Shadow the command to stand watch.  Shadow responded by standing close to his handler while Liam took a knee and scanned the area around them.  Liam used all his training to keep alert on the area around them, which seemed quiet, but Liam knew that the enemy could be hiding anywhere, waiting to pounce on them when they least expected it.

Blake was alert for people, while throwing his two cents onto the situation of local communications. "Radio will have been developed at a guess, but at least the ability to secure it should be beyond them right now. Earliest American technique was throwing random noise over the signal and subtracting the noise on the receiver's end and that wasn't until several decades after where they seem to be in comparison to Earth. Of course, it's possible they've invented frequency hopping."

And diplomacy, it was certainly something he'd gotten good at. Working with Colonel Moore, who could unintentionally insult people by saying 'hello.' Not that Stan Moore had been a bad guy, Blake was pretty sure that the colonel had had some kind of curse put on him. He was thinking about the worst times on Moore's contact team when there was a very close spate of gunfire, immediately followed by a different-sounding and maybe more numerous report. "And that definitely sounds like they could use some diplomacy around here, Captain."

And it was another patrol, and another encounter with the enemy. As the enemy forces backed down, Quintari got wearily off the ground. This Vishnu-cursed war had been going for longer than it had any right to. Her second looked south. "Did you hear that? Considering why we're out here . . ."

She shook her head. "Just another enemy patrol, the reason we're out here is ridiculous, Seon."

Of course, as leader of the patrol, Quintari was the only one who dared say what all of them were thinking.

As others had spreed out and moved a head with the tasks. He taken the task of keeping their forward path safe from on coming fire should it head this way. As the chances were there, if there as a partol trolling on foot. More if the gate had not been used in a long time. Surely the power surge as Travis had explained to him might clue the locals in their arrival. That was going to be swell if they knew. Looking back the the oath they arrived from, he was glad that so far they weren't followed so far.

After hearing Blue he had already picked up on the hints. The scorched earth told too much and at same the showed the mother nature's mood over the war. The blackened soil was not a sight to left for the future generations. Letting the earth fall from his fist hand and he looked up while brushing his hands clean. His ears picked up sounds of something. He scanned the area with his eyes and waited to hear more sounds with his ears.

"Be alert folks," he sofly called out to his team, still keeping an ear strained, "We can expect company anytime. It won't do good to be caught off guard." He trusted Shadow to alert everyone of anyone approaching as the dog would be the first to notice it.

He raised his gun as he heard Shadow bark and from his peripheral vision saw the direction the dog was pointing in. At the moment it would be hard to tell if the people were foes or they could turn into allies. Given the tech level from what they could see wasn't much. But he knew looks could be deceiving. Seeing few men approaching the path where SV-1 was on, Bobby wasn't taking any chances for a shoot off if he could help it. Dying in another galaxy wasn't on his list of aims while he lead.

"Identify yourselves," he ordered as he saw the group coming into view.

Liam stood quickly when Shadow barked, raising his P90 at the same time while giving a command in German to Shadow at the same time.  Shadow laid next to Liam when he said that, barking again as he laid there.  Liam glanced down to him as he heard Robert call out for the group that was approaching to identify themselves.  While standing there, Liam started to get that uneasy feeling, the one a solider got in the seconds before all heck broke lose.  Liam stayed focused as he stood there, his finger close to the trigger of his P90 in case the order was given to open fire.  At the same time, Shadow was ready to attack if told to.  It was not lost on Liam that Shadow was chomping at the bit.

Pacing steadily across the broken and chared landscape, he'd slipped away to the right of the team keeping pace with them on a parallel course, keeping just out of sight.

The past few months he'd spent first on the outpost and then the main base itself, geeking out on all the technology and throughly aquatint himself with the inner workings of the technology, which offered a few suprises in the blend of the advanced and almost outdated tech.

The environment he gated into was all to familiar, the air of battle brought back memories, Akotirie, Palmyra, among others. The mention of confusion on the airways, and the sight of planes gave him pause for thought, the unmistakable sound of a jet was conspicuously absent, taking a closer look through a set of binoculars he could just about make out the profile. Propeller driven, almost definitely.

"Calmara to Blue, focus your receiver on the planes, they propeller engined airframes of this era have a max ceiling of 16 to 20,000ft, they're mostly used for recon and have a direct line to there base should give us who's fighting who and where abouts any towns, instalation and troops are, giving 'Asimov' a wake up if you want to stream, another pair of eyes can hurt." He requested while keeping pace with the team and pulled the tablet from its little pouch set into the side of this pack roughly about the small of his back, with in easy grab reach as he like to call it, setting it to network to known devices first.

Hearing a shout of his team leader, the Air Force Sergeant dropped to a crouch, making a quick swirch from tech to weapon and cautiously yet quickly, moved in that direction, it was to late to avoid this little encounter but any information could avoid further suprise. He had benefit of a small patch of shrubbery for cover at the moment and took full advantage. "Cap'n, I'm on your four, got clean sight lines left and right flankers if things get a bit tasty." Spannermonkey.J He smiled ruefully, at this point in times past he was the one taking a lead on the 'play nice approach, it was quite a nice change of pace to be the back up.

Blake did what he was supposed, out of anybody's line of fire and covering down behind Chief Calmara. And it was a woman's voice that responded to Captain Oxford's call, his first thought was that women in a apparent combat military role was surprising at least for the equivalent era they seemed to be. "Identify yours! We're the only troop here, so you have to be Others!"

Blake gambled, lightly touching Calmara's shoulder to say he was moving before doing it. "We're not Others; we're not from your world. We're explorers, friendly people looking to meet allies. I'm Blake."

The brush shook and parted and a woman with red hair piled up on her head in a messy bun and very pale skin came from it, face fully painted with camouflauge and wearing a uniform that might have blended in with something that was not the forest around her. Behind her a half dozen men of a fire team stepped forward, weapons raised but not properly down the barrel. Their hair and uniform were equally a few degrees off military proper to hers.

Seeing SV-1 she gave a small 'huh.' "Your uniform definitely isn't those of the Others. I am Quintari Lysend, the team supervisor. This is my team second Seon Horlary."

Blake pointed to himself. "Blake Warren, and this is our team supervisor Captain Oxford and the team second Lieutenant Skala." 

He followed Quintari's example of only mentioning the two top people. She looked cock-eyed at Captain Oxford and talked like Blake wasn't there. "You bring those to combat?"

Calmara understood what the tap on the shoulder meant, or could guess at least. More than that he appreciated it, at least the Blake had a bit of experience or common sense to know that a sign of what you were about to do in any given situation was appreciated.

He kept an eye as Blake started the exchange and thankfully it went well at first. The members of the other team were clearly a military unit of a former or another, particularly given their leaders instance on observing a hierarchy. But judging by there appearance, they were either special forces or a local milita, of the type they used back home before the formation of a standing army, and they had clearly been in the field for weeks if not a month or so. Glancing across to his team lead, for a lead and a pointer of how to proceed next, he determined that he would stay hidden for the moment until called out by another one of his team mates. He picked up the change in tone of the engines buzzing in the sky, the direction and increase in volume he guessed one was now heading in there direction. Question is was it freand or foe.

He hadn't dropped the gun nor his aim at the what he thought was leader when they came into the team's line of sight. He had already heard Calmara's heads up, "No shooting, till I order." He eyes scanned the group of 7 people for anything. To his trained eyes, they were themselves trained. Who was he kidding?

At least they won't have a Mexican stand-off.

Before he had a chance to ask about 'Others' they were refereeing to, Warren was stepping out of the shadows to speak. Bobby lowered his gun, but not removing it from his grip, as he left is arm rest on the gun itself. Also in a way it was quick to move it back to aiming it. He had civilians on his team to consider the safety off.

It will him a moment to realise that the leader was actually a female. And a pretty one by the look of her. Great he was losing his touch. Hopefully his charm was still there. No, he decided, it was none on that, given the era they had arrived in, he wasn't expecting females to be in military. Leaning in, "I thought you said it was 1920's," he whispered in Blake's ear, before stepping forward.

"Those?" he asked playing aloof, "What those?" Then threw a quick smile; which was neither friendly or warm.

Liam nodded a bit when he heard the order, but remained ready in case it was given. Shadow stayed close to his master, ready to pounce if need be but at the moment, he was calm. The dog lay still next to his handler, not moving unless he was told to. Liam kept his eyes on the people in front of them as he knelt there, not knowing what to expect next from them or from his CO. He glanced over to his commanding officer, then back to the group that was in front of them, wondering who they were and what they wanted.

Blake swallowed the first thing that crossed his mind, which was to ask someone on the team to give him something larger than his civilian SG standard Beretta M9 and let him show Quintari exactly what he could do.



But he stuck to a diplomatic response. He was still better with a hunting rifle than submachine guns. "It's because we're explorers, Supervisor Lysend and our military doesn't always have the diplomatic skills for it. We'd like to meet your leaders and try to negotiate."



Quintari looked briefly at the whole team, snorting at seeing the second civilian. Who in their right mind would bring anybody who wasn't fit for the military to combat? Nearly every man of able body and age, plus every woman with little other options in life, was a soldier on Yalta.



But a diplomat, she looked back to Blake, and then to her counterpart team supervisor. "Two civilians? Even needing a diplomat, I can't think of anyone more useless to bring to combat. But at least I know you're not from the other side, they wouldn't be hauling civilians around with them. If you're what your shag-headed civilian says, follow me. And kept that beast under control, our unit supervisor is scared of them."



One of her men couldn't help snarking. "Scared? Supervisor Leeson will wet himself on seeing a big fine dog like that one, madam. Permission to laugh my hind off when he does."



Quintari turned away to lead the strangers back to base, wondering if the civilian woman and Second Skala were dishonored among their own people like she was among hers. It was one searching back glance at Skala before she organized her troop to leave, as she wondered if the other women would take the proper address of "lady" or the lower one of "madam." "Denied, Rifleman Bintle. But I sympathize with the desire." To the strangers, she gestured. "Gentlemen, madams, follow us along."

And she hoped she hadn't assumed anything about the two other women's honor by addressing them as "madam."

Wasn't paying attention

Blueberry had not been paying attention, she barely heard James asking her to gain access to their radio signals. Which by and by was a piece of cake. She would have put it on speaker if she hadn't been distracted by Qunitari's snort. Blueberry was quick enough to spot the look. In response Blue beamed at Quintari. I'm a scientist! And with that she was she moved the radio capture into speaker phone mode.

Blueberry closed her eyes and held Miki out at arms length as the battle chatter took over. Multiple streams coming in from both sides running all at once. She turned the speaker off again and looked sheepishly towards Bobby. One at a time maybe?
