USS Shiva
Fighter Bay 2
So far so good, thought Koren. He had monitored SV-2's arrival onto the planet with the jumper, and once they had sent the all clear, he brought the jumper back to the Shiva. No surprises was a very good thing.
Koren caught a figure running towards him out of the corner of his eye. He turned to see it was Clark, who had no poker face, and he suddenly knew this routine diplomatic mission was about to take a characteristically SGC turn.
"What?" Koren said as Clark thrust a tablet into his hand.
"Your third mineral scan," Clark said, pointing to the screen. Koren's heart sank...

Bridge
Koren jogged onto the bridge and addressed the Colonel directly, "Sir," He said, handing the tablet to a tech who hooked it up to the onboard computer, "We have a problem."
"I made one last scan as I piloted away from the planet, scanning the mineral composites that the mainland is mining for profit, just in case we can use it as leverage against the Asura if something goes wrong down there. The results just finished compiling."
A map appeared on-screen, and a pop-up appeared with words flashing in red, pointing directly to the vicinity SV-2 landed. "Naquadah." Koren said, pointing at the board, where more and more of the planet's surface was lighting up red, "The planet is covered in it, coursing with it. The rebels, if they are where SV-2 has landed, have set up base in an abandoned Naquadah mine, and whats more," The computer switched screens, showing a graphs with the y-axis labeled "%" with many minerals labeled upon the x-axis, but the bottom right mineral was flashing red, "It looks like there are trace amounts of Naquadria in the atmosphere. Its very possible this civilization has already undergone a Naquadria disaster."
"The long and short of it is, sir," Koren looked bleakly back at Oxford, "If the people we're tracking turn out to be hostile and something happens to SV-2 down there while they are talking to the rebels in those mines, they can't radio out, we can't beam them back, and we can't support with orbital strikes or we risk igniting the Naquadah veins and blowing up the planet." Koren hated being the bearer of bad news, and knew all of this was standard SGC 101 info these days, but knowing Travis, he knew he had to put it on record so that Travis' next crazy plan would seem to the IOA or whoever else was listening in less ill-advised.
